    Excellent writeup!

btw if you fix your markup you can re-send your webmention to Jeremy's website and it will update on his end and clean it up!

@acorscadden Nothing automatic like OwnYourGram, but we do have a dedicated batch import feature in the macOS version of Micro.blog. There's a help page with links to more info here.

    Aaron Parecki
OwnYourGram isn't automatic anymore because Instagram started putting profile pages behind a login wall and severely rate limiting requests to profiles. It should still be working if you go into your dashboard and import photos manually though.

Related to previous tweets... at PyConAU 2018 people were talking about their multi-country power adapter and travel cord management systems... who has recs?

    I think I remember @timb07@twitter.com, @andrewgodwin@twitter.com, @chrisjrn@twitter.com, and @freakboy3742@twitter.com having opinions here?

    Aaron Parecki
I'm not a fan of the multi-country ones because they end up being huge bricks. I take a couple of super compact adapters for each country with me now.

Friends who have gone to Japan recently (specifically Tokyo):

What should I know before going?

I have hotel, I'm not really leaving Tokyo proper much, what's the "existing in Japan" things I should know?

    Aaron Parecki
Get a Suica card, you can use it for everything from transit to paying for stuff in restaurants and vending machines. If you have an iPhone you can transfer the suica card into your Apple wallet and use that instead and it's magic.

Ok I'm going to try and be an adult here.

No new MacBook and no new lens today.

You might think that not buying anything is the easier option.

    You clearly don't know me.

Better than my response to the new MacBooks which was to go buy a new Razer Stealth 13 laptop and switch to Windows ๐Ÿคฃ

I donโ€™t think they did. I think itโ€™s just newer tech in the reader; after all itโ€™s been several years since the SD slot was included. I could be wrong though. Prograde makes reader isnโ€™t cheap. But worth every penny (especialy the dual slot reader) if you create lots of content.
    Aaron Parecki
Good point, I always forget how long it's been since the SD card reader was built in, and just because clock speeds aren't much faster since then doesn't mean there weren't lots of other improvements in the tech.

The ProGrade reader is a lot faster than the internal SD card reader by about 40% if memory serves.
    Aaron Parecki
Makes you wonder how they messed up the internal SD card reader so bad then!

I would pay a lot of money for the new MacBook Pro 16 to have SD card slots.

And by a lot I mean whatever letโ€™s me stop using this dumb dongle ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Sometimes when I wake up after having fallen asleep wearing AirPods I get worried I swallowed one while sleeping when I canโ€™t find them for 10 minutes ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜…just me? Ok.

Fun fact: On average, people swallow 8 AirPods a year while sleeping. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/fact-or-fiction-people-swallow-8-spiders-a-year-while-they-sleep1/

@aaronpk I've recently started posting on micro.blog and came across your post when looking for a way to add weather to posts. Could your solution be implemented on a platform like micro.blog, or is it something that would require access to the blog platform itself? I should note that I tend to post either via the micro.blog app, or via Quill which is a way more accessible editing experience for me as a blind screen reader user. Would appreciate any thoughts as I'd really like to start doing this. Thanks in advance.
    Aaron Parecki
Thanks for the note, and I'm glad to hear Quill is a good experience for you!

Including weather in the posts like I do does require special support from the blog software. I suppose you could always include it in the text of posts, but that might clutter up the content of the post too much too.

Today I learned how strange (and mildly disorienting) it is to watch a video of yourself speak. I also learned that the voice I have for myself in my head is almost nothing like my actual voice ๐Ÿ˜‚
    Aaron Parecki
100%! This year is the first year I finally don't feel like that, between editing videos of myself and watching back hundreds of hours of my presentations.

What I never got is why people are so eager to board the plane as early as possible. My strategy is to wait until everyone is in and to go in last. This way I'm in the airplane as short as possible. I always try to get a seat in the center so that nobody needs to stand up and let me into my seat.

    Aaron Parecki
it's the battle for overhead bin space! I never check bags but that means I need space in the overhead bins. Last one on means the space is all full up usually.

I absolutely dread when itโ€™s SD Card cleanup time. Iโ€™d almost rather to keep buying more cards then to delete the footage off of one.

Iโ€™m always terrified Iโ€™m going to delete a main clip of something ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Remember when we used to just keep buying VHS and 8mm tapes never taping over old ones?

Then again, it was a lot harder to back those up back then.

Welp it filled up back here, oh well. I'm not super familiar with the SAS seating assignment process, so I guess several rows of empty seats during checkin yesterday was not an indicator of an empty flight.
    Aaron Parecki
oh and in my rush I forgot that one of the things I was supposed to do at the airport was buy snacks for the plane since the website wouldn't let me choose a vegetarian meal and Scandinavian food is like the complete opposite of vegetarian. ๐Ÿ˜”

aaaaand I am on the plane! Boarding group A so I'm the first one into the back half of the plane! ๐Ÿ˜…

Now I just cross my fingers that the seats next to me haven't been claimed in the last 24 hours and this will be a pleasant 12hr flight.
