so you're homeless now? Aren't there some sort of... hostels, or something, that don't need to be booked in advance?
    Aaron Parecki
I just booked a hotel when I landed, thankfully there were plenty available!

@aaronpk 😱 I hope you found accommodations without too much hassle.

    Aaron Parecki
Yep, thankfully it's a small town and there were plenty of options!

I got to find out what ā€œguaranteed room availabilityā€ with high hotel status means.

It means you’re paying 4x what everyone else in the hotel is paying, and you’re sleeping in the conference room.

No seriously, they put a cot in a conference room and charged me for it.
    Aaron Parecki
Better than sleeping in the lobby I guess

You haven’t lived until you’ve done that in Europe, after an 18 hour flight. During a big conference where all the hotels are booked.

Bonus points if your company is the one throwing the conference.

    Or so I’ve heard.

@manton I don’t think that own your gram or your swarm are working. None of my check ins or pictures have been published on my Mb page

    Aaron Parecki
OwnYourSwarm should be working still. Gram not so much.

@thaddeushunt Is this using OwnYourGram? Micro.blog has no direct connection with Instagram itself, so seems like it would be something on the OwnYourGram side, perhaps how often it checks for new photos.

    Aaron Parecki
Instagram is cracking down on "unofficial" use of its website, so OwnYourGram isn't able to fetch photos automatically until I fix it.

What's this e-ink device? is it open source? it looks cute 3
    Aaron Parecki
    It's a Waveshare display. I don't think it's open source tho. Here's the link! https://www.waveshare.com/product/modules/oleds-lcds/e-paper/2.13inch-e-paper-hat.htm

Formatting memory cards makes me uncomfortable
    Aaron Parecki
Memory cards are cheap enough now to treat them like 8mm tapes where you just kept getting new ones and never overwriting old ones and now have an entire bookcase full of footage from 20 years ago

Probably the best thing on the G7XIII is the lens.

I wish this lens was on every point and shoot from now on. 24-100 1.8-2.8 šŸ”„šŸ”„
    Aaron Parecki
I know you don't have this anymore, but did you see the weird thing when taking a picture, the screen would continue to show the live view for a second before the preview of the photo appeared? The previous gen didn't do that. I can't figure out if there's a setting somewhere...

@aaronpk Woah this is really cool, how did you do it?

    Aaron Parecki
motion sensor in the box, door contact sensor on the door, connected to home-assistant. node-RED flow to watch for motion without the door opening (dirty), door opens (clean), tells home-assistant to turn the light different colors!

took quite a bit to get to this point but I'm pretty happy with how quick it is to make rules like this now!

@aaronpk next plan. Have Aaron share his catboxcode

    Aaron Parecki
that's the brilliant part about this node-red platform, no coding required! As much as I'm happy to write code to make stuff work, it's nice when I don't have to!

Well I’d suggest a nifty video. IndieWeb in 5 minutes. Don’t talk about the details or the implementation (that’s tech babble). Show em what’s in for Joe. Solid reasons like displaying a feed the way you like it and not how \$silo AI decided. (Still working on that :))
    Aaron Parecki
That's exactly the challenge, it means different things to different people. For example that example isn't appealing to everyone, only people who are annoyed with that particular feature of silos. Other people like the "own your data" aspect.

SMS 2FA is always better than no 2FA though.
    Aaron Parecki
If SMS is purely for 2FA then yes. but quite often adding SMS 2FA also lets you use SMS for account recovery, and that is worse than having no 2FA.
