@aaronpk I just got my pi 4 and have been experimenting too. I have node-red, home assistant, Rocket.chat all running on it. Probably too much, but having fun

    Aaron Parecki
Nice! What are you doing with node-red? I haven't found a need for that yet, or at least I don't yet know what it can do that Home Assistant can't.

@aaronpk what board/dongle are you using for ZWave?

    Aaron Parecki
The GoControl HUSBZB-1. I think I saw it mentioned on the Home Assistant forums.

Does anyone know a secret way to get a refund on a price drop (price match) on amazon? An old Slate article explained how via phone, but I just got off the phone hearing a big NO. Was told to return and repurchase the same items! 🤯 Price dropped $30ea on 4 hard drives… $120!
    Aaron Parecki
They used to do it pretty often for me over the phone, but lately I've been getting a strong "no". Return and re-purchase is the only option, which seems a bit drastic and like it costs them more. 🤷‍♂️

So far out of all the home automation devices I've connected to this Raspberry Pi, the most reliable ones have been 433mhz transmitters and ESP32s on wifi. I've been getting spotty performance of Bluetooth and Z-wave devices. Could be that the Pi isn't powerful enough, or could be because simpler is just better.
    Aaron Parecki
The Bluetooth stack on this pi is really acting up today! I'm going to try out a new USB bluetooth dongle and see if that helps. If not, I might have to move to some better hardware like an Intel NUC.

@aaronpk this has been my strategy too. Heavily into Home Assistant already and delving into NodeRed now.

    Aaron Parecki
Neat! I'm just getting up and running with Home Assistant. It's been an adventure so far!

@aaronpk sounds awesome! What model is that? I’m thinking of doing the same.

    Real talk.

I cannot remember the last camera that's had me as excited as the RX100VII.

I've enjoyed cameras previously (I mean me right) but I've never had one that I went from completely "meh lets make the video due to obligation" to "HOLY CRAP" quicker.

There’s not a clear way to ‘reset’ either which makes test/dev extremely frustrating
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah totally. That was why I was bashing my head against the wall for a while when I first tried this API out. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. The worst part is it's based on the first time the user approves the app regardless of whether the app finishes the flow.

This is disappointing, and likely a hole in any OIDC compliance. I'd expect requesting an email scope drops the email claim into the token.
    Aaron Parecki
100%. Also notice how not following the spec opened up a new vulnerability. But when has Apple been known to respect standards?

Very cool to see other people working on Home Automation stuff. I'm not automating much yet. It's more like keeping track of things, like energy usage and temperature. Best project yet was getting a notification when the washing machine was done, based on energy usage measured by a smart plug. That was created with ESPHome.
    Aaron Parecki
That's very cool! I might have to try that one too!

My favorite style of photography is definitely the product shot. And since I tried talking all the photographers into using twitter more I might as well post them here too.
    Aaron Parecki
That is very well lit! You should do a behind the scenes to show us how you make photos like that! 📸

I watch quite a lot of your videos, but to be honest, I really could care less about an Olympus TG-6. For me personally, it’s the least interesting topic I’ve seen you cover. Maybe it’s not a scheduling thing and just a topic others like me aren’t interested in?

OH. So not just for motion? The sound, smoke alarm, and CO alarm toggles all go to the cloud as well. I'll share your request for universal button with the team. Sorry for my confusion!
    Aaron Parecki
I just want to make sure the footage isn't uploaded anywhere. None of these explanations give me much confidence 😆 A button to specifically disable cloud recording would be great.

Not competing with at all. It’s the anti-VidCon. This is a place for YouTubers to learn.
    Aaron Parecki
that said, I'm very curious about Vidsummit, it looks interesting! I feel like Vidcon was a good crash course in Youtube for me, but I'm not sure I can justify two conferences in the same year tho.

Vidcon has the whole creator and industry tracks which have zero to do with fans. It's sessions about making videos. The expo hall was all tracks combined, so it was a little funny to have the Sennheiser booth next to the M&M booth.

Curious how many of my twitter friends are going to @vidsummit this year… (if you ARE going, also comment below so I know who to look for!)
    Aaron Parecki
I'd never heard of it before. They're clearly competing with Vidcon with their home page copy! 😂 "VidSummit is NOT a place where influencers connect with their fans."

Thanks for your feedback! Do you have a specific link that I can send the team to look at?

To turn off cloud recording, turn off the motion detection. That's the only toggle for that particular aspect. You can still use continuous recording to a microSD card afterward.
    Aaron Parecki
Thanks! That's much simpler than it apparently used to be!

We're releasing Wyze Cam v2 4.9.4.108 and Wyze Cam Pan 4.10.3.108 firmware upgrades today! These add support for a Wyze Sense status light toggle on the Bridge, fix a couple Bridge bugs, and fix time lapse downloading.

Can we get a toggle that completely disables cloud uploading/recording?

The references for how to disable cloud recording by turning off a bunch of switches don't match up with the latest version of the app!
