There are now two Flash Forward copy-cats out there, both claiming to have invented a brand new genre. One of them is super well funded. The other is about to make $$ on a Kickstarter. Watching people who wouldn't give me the time of day praise these new shows as "innovative" truly makes me want to find a new career.

@aaronpk should be easy to script in it, should be easy to scale up and write OOP code in it, shouldn't be Objective C or Java.

    Aaron Parecki
What about ObjC and Java do you not like?

    - robust community support and adoption
    - good impedance match with problem space
    - excellent support tooling

note that none of those are about the BNF.
    Aaron Parecki
Exactly what I was looking for, thanks!

Was the hotel that bad or the city?

    Aaron Parecki
I mean I'm not a huge fan of California suburbs in general, but there were so many things wrong with that hotel... the elevators were down for a whole day, hot water went out one morning, the sheets had weird red stains, etc etc. I really should post a proper review.

@aaronpk During one of the workshops you mentioned on your personal site you have a comparable OAuth flow decision tree as the one on Okta site https://developer.okta.com/docs/concepts/auth-overview/#what-kind-of-client-are-you-building, where could we find this one? -- https://aaronparecki.com/oauth-2-simplified/
    Aaron Parecki
I haven't used it in a blog post yet, but you can find it on a slide deck from a recent presentation! https://speakerdeck.com/aaronpk/oauth-2-dot-0-and-openid-connect?slide=26

It never ceases to amaze me how long a “simple” 3½ minute video takes to produce.
    Aaron Parecki
I can sympathize! The short ones are often the most work!

Maybe that’s the “feature”… weeeee. Which of course all smartphones do already. Just calling them out on a clickbaity headline. So dumb.
    Aaron Parecki
I agree, that headline is kinda ridiculous. I am legit excited about that camera tho! I wish Panasonic would come out with an equivalent update for the LX10!

Sorry ⁦@Gizmodo⁩ but that’s a stupid headline. ALL cameras support vertical video. You ready for this? Rotate. Your. Hand.
    Aaron Parecki
yeah that one confused me... is the new feature that it sets the orientation in the metadata so that it imports into editors in the right orientation? or do existing cameras already do that? I don't shoot vertical video... 🤷‍♂️

If you’re going to bring me a paper straw, just don’t bring it at all.
    Aaron Parecki
    omg for real

gotta drink quick or it turns into a soggy mess

i've had those clog themselves up from the paper disintegrating into the straw hole within 5 minutes

Rewatching TNG, they violate the prime directive so often that not even Patrick Stewart’s Acting can convince me that it’s a big deal. I also got a lot better at spotting obvious plot holes, and wow are there a lot of them. Still the best Trek I’ve watched though.

    Aaron Parecki
yeah, voyager did a better job of making reasonable excuses for violating the prime directive imo, given that they were nowhere near federation space

@aaronpk I contacted a bank about opening an account and they sent me a PDF form for my personal information and asked me to return it via email. I told them that that request was specifically the reason I chose not to open an account with them.

Tbh your reference server was easy enough to follow for me to implement my own “serverless” solution, and it’s been running for the last two years with no issues at about $0.90 a month
    Aaron Parecki
That's awesome! Is it open source? I'd happily link to it in the Overland readme so people know they have another option!

Overland by @aaronpk is the best tbh. You own all the data https://overland.p3k.app/
    Aaron Parecki
I've never added any automatic trip detection like Moves had though. They really were the best at that.

Thanks! I've been collecting my location data since 2008, and since 2013 using Overland! The good part is you own the data, the bad part is it means you have to run a server to collect it somewhere.

I mean, why should I care about this specific plane's refit progress? I also like the Virgin Airlines material design though.
    Aaron Parecki
as someone who flies @AlaskaAir a lot, it's always disorienting to step into the old Virgin planes, so I do appreciate the notice that they'll be updated soon!
