ooh, the Google link is at least helpful for "look, I'm not crazy, Google don't trust client secrets on Windows" :)
    Aaron Parecki
oh you're definitely not crazy, I just sometimes forget that not everybody already knows this :-) Most of what I've written on this starts with the assumption that the reader already knows mobile apps can't keep secrets.

Does anyone have an approachable article for "don't trust the client"? Best I've found is the OAuth threat model RFC (RFC 6819), but it's a bit too long to ask others to read for a quick overview :) (not work related)
    Aaron Parecki
Good question. If you find anything, let me know and I can add a link to it on https://oauth.net/2/native-apps/

Guessing from the header image... was, ironically, the article about Google surveillance?

    Yes

Command + Control + Power Button -- someone who crashes these computers a lot.
    Aaron Parecki
Of course this is while I'm using an external keyboard (with no power button) and my laptop is closed and neatly tucked under the desk.

3rd row up from the bottom

Turns out it was 4th from the bottom. Bottom is "Log Out", then "Lock Screen", then "Shut Down", then "Restart"

#37 Show links from <dfn> in chat response?

    Aaron Parecki
I think this would be a good idea.

In order for that to be possible, I'd need the URL available as a Microformat property, since that's how Loqi gets the definitions right now.

Currently the wiki page's URL is the h-entry url, which makes sense. Maybe the linked URL could be a second url property in the h-entry? Loqi could look for the first URL that is not on indieweb.org when creating the message.

Ultimately I think this would have to be done by the wiki plugin that creates the <dfn> tag (https://github.com/aaronpk/mediawiki-mf2-dfn) or manually for the wiki pages that override the plugin.

I definitely thought about that, but that was gonna take wayyyy more work than I was willing to put in to the joke 😉

Ohhh nice! I wonder what does it require for a white desk to support being a whiteboard? Special paint or just a specific type of material?
    Aaron Parecki
I got a can of whiteboard paint from the hardware store! It comes in two parts since it's kind of an epoxy, and it takes like 4 days to cure!

See, now, I read that as OAuth, which is the no.1 most powerful sign that I have been working in this industry too long I have yet experienced.
    Aaron Parecki
heck I can't even type Oath without my fingers typing out OAuth instead

I *worked* at Oath and I *constantly* read it as OAuth.
    Aaron Parecki
There was someone from Oath at a recent OAuth working group meeting which wasn't confusing at all

Yay: discovering that @okta has a great article for adding OIDC authentication via nginx auth_request (https://developer.okta.com/blog/2018/08/28/nginx-auth-request)

Boo: It relies on an early-access feature that requires you to reach out to your account rep to enable. #srelife
    Aaron Parecki
Can you clarify which early-access feature that is? I didn't think this required anything special, I tested it with my developer account that has no special privileges.

Specifically Overland. Will probably write my own server component in Python, but the iOS side being done is handy.
    Aaron Parecki
Awesome. I'll gladly link to your Python server component from Overland's page if you publish the source code somewhere!

@aaronpk would have some thoughts on this
    Aaron Parecki
Totally depends on the other constraints. Wifi location is probably the best for general purpose location everywhere. Bluetooth/NFC can get you super accuracy but of course requires installation at the venue.

why do you use an offline calendar and not some sort of CalDAV-enabled thing?

    Aaron Parecki
This thing is three feet wide, and is the only way to see the whole year at a glance. There isn't any software that can do that as effectively.

I do also use a calendar on the computer, but for a different kind of planning.

You using the WebKit web payment api stuff for Apple Pay ? I was looking at it the other day as it also offers google wallet in the same code for chrome users.
    Aaron Parecki
Keep in mind all it does is collect the credit card info, you still need an actual payment gateway to do something with the card.
