    Seagates?
    Aaron Parecki
@ricfink A mix of Seagate and WD, but it’s the Synology that’s failed twice. The third Synology has been fine so far tho!

I recently had to RMA my device twice because the controller kept failing. The drives were all fine each time tho.
    Aaron Parecki
At this point I'm thinking a couple USB 4TB drives that rsync to another set that sync to Backblaze is a better option. Fewer moving parts.

@mattb I have a 5x4TB RAID6 (2 redundant) but IME the hardware around the drives fails more often than the drives themselves.

I’m looking forward to checking it out. I’ve spent more time than I care to admit with the OAuth spec. 💀

I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but this is just a flipbook of the “this is the part where we throw our heads back and laugh” gif.
    Aaron Parecki
    @toomuchpete it's not that bad I promise 😂

I've done conversions for .epub/.mobi before and have some infrastructure for it. Let me know if you want/need help.
    Aaron Parecki
Thanks! I actually just finished the technical side of it this morning. Turns out it was more about doing things like writing conditional text for things like "the figure above" instead of "figure 1.4" since the figure numbering happened in the HTML->PDF toolchain step. I think I have a finished epub and mobi file now, so I just have to figure out the distribution step through Lulu.com now. (It's also made slightly complicated by the rev share agreement, so I can't just go wild with distribution or direct online sales of it.)

Congratulations! Any plans for an epub/kindle version?
    Aaron Parecki
@dominik Yep, finished up the prep work of the epub/kindle version this morning, still working out the distribution details!

You can IndieAuth into Stack Overflow now? 😮
    Aaron Parecki
@keithjgrant indieauth.com is one of the only remaining OpenID providers, and Stack Overflow still accepts OpenID logins

Got a Google Sheets question too long for 140 Twitter, and IndieAuth․com won’t talk to meyerweb․com so I can’t post it to StackOverflow. 😭

@meyerweb I just updated the user agent that indieauth.com sends so it should work for you now!

@meyerweb Strange, your Wordpress is returning a 403 error when the user agent is set to Chrome 43!

@aaronpk Sounds like I should be able to try on the PI just curious,. I use the Trails app to record walks at the moment and play with leaflet.js to display with photos. So I'f be interested in varying the rate of recording. Most of my weekday would be very boring. Home->Work->Home

    Aaron Parecki
ah cool so you're mostly interested in the trip tracking aspect of it? Not so much the passive continuous aspect? I bet I could put together a mini app that publishes a feed like this: https://aaronparecki.com/transport

@aaronpk This looks like good fun. Can compas be installed by none dev types on share hosting? or a Raspberry pi?

    Aaron Parecki
@johnjohnston I'm considering building a mini version of Compass, and I'm curious, what is the most important feature of location tracking for you? Having full history? Sharing your realtime location with friends? Something else?

    Aaron Parecki
@johnjohnston It's a bit complicated to set up right now, it wasn't really meant for shared hosting. Definitely doable on a Raspberry Pi tho.

    3. Also, most parsers that consume them only work if you render your HTML server-side.
    Aaron Parecki
@shuoink Plenty of examples of why that's a bad idea here: https://indieweb.org/js;dr Fine for web apps, not so much for documents.

    Aaron Parecki
if the HTML isn't rendered server side, it's not a website. it's a web app, and will most likely be lost to time https://indieweb.org/js;dr

    2. Would much rather see it use namespaced data-* attributes.
    Aaron Parecki
@shuoink data attributes are "not intended for use by software that is independent of the site" https://www.w3.org/TR/2011/WD-html5-20110525/elements.html#embedding-custom-non-visible-data-with-the-data-attributes

Just learned that Kevin Mitnick references my website in his latest book. Wow.
    Aaron Parecki
@benwerd That's awesome, but the demo is broken! Browsers won't give access to the location APIs w/o SSL anymore and there's no cert!

Hi, I'm Aaron Parecki, Director of Identity Standards at Okta, and co-founder of IndieWebCamp. I maintain oauth.net, write and consult about OAuth, and participate in the OAuth Working Group at the IETF. I also help people learn about video production and livestreaming. (detailed bio)

I've been tracking my location since 2008 and I wrote 100 songs in 100 days. I've spoken at conferences around the world about owning your data, OAuth, quantified self, and explained why R is a vowel. Read more.
