The whole idea of remote kindergarten. It’s just like... why are we pretending?

One day last week I saw the UPS truck drive by my house AND IT DID NOT STOP.

I bet the driver thought something must be wrong, too.

Upload is a comedy but it’s like a legit passive critique of tech eating up everything and finding a way to charge for anything. Those without funds are forced to live at 10 minutes on the hour and you can’t even get clothes in some cases.

Every time I get on a video call and people see my video looks great, the first thing I get asked is which camera I’m using, but the camera is the least important in the whole setup. Lights are the main thing, angle, lens and how far my background is contribute a lot to the look.

There's a saying that writing software is more like tending a garden than constructing a building -- things constantly change.

But the more I learn about how buildings evolve, I think this process is actually a perfect analogy for designing software!

“I don’t like the color of that wall in my house”

“Thanks for the feedback! We’ll consider repainting everyone’s walls if enough house owners agree with you!”

The lack of agency we have over our software would seem absurd in other contexts.

Mixer and TikTok are not analogous. Mixer was an attempt to take market share from a successful, loved, market-dominant platform with nothing but money. TikTok /is/ the successful, loved, market-dominant platform. It would be hard for Microsoft to fuck up TikTok’s trajectory.

My father sent me a similarly worded email a few weeks ago. Apparently I’m “indoctrinating the children into a broken lifestyle”, and then cited many of the same “concerns”. Which I honestly thought were selling points. Just wait until he finds out two of them are gay! 🏳️‍🌈❤️🤷🏻‍♀️😂

There's people who immediately spend thousands of dollars on gear before ever making a penny from the work they do with it.
And then there's people who refuse to spend the right amount on gear because they refuse to believe they'll ever "grow" enough for it to be worth it.

One of the biggest consequences of the war on ads (aka privacy concerns) is that we now live in a world where journalism is behind a paywall while rumors & disinformation are free flowing.

i’ve found if you’ve hide the lighting and sound lessons inside videos that are more search friendly they do much better.

    audio? make it about podcasting.

lighting? apply it to a specific production (food videos etc)

when i try to do isolated or generic topics it tanks.
