True, if we consider the amount of potential IndieAuth deploy targets (all the worlds Wordpress sites) the image looks far more rosy. I do think the new breed of desentralized apps/services (Mastodon, Riot/Matrix.org) should adopt IndieAuth as a good way to desentralize auth!

I'm getting more and more convinced that rolling your own auth should be considered as unusual as operating your own data center. 99% of web apps should just use someone else's IdP, weather that's Google, Github, Facebook, SAML, w/e.

My thoughts on this aren't fully formed, but it is fascinating that OBS, the software that thousands use to stream to Twitch, is now supporting itself through Patreon.

Also, go support the project open source streaming software is important.

The average Bird scooter only survives 28 days, earning $75 across its lifetime, according to new data.

Which means Bird loses about $285 net on every scooter. 😬

I really enjoyed this @alisongriswold on the still abysmal unit economics of e-scooters: https://oversharing.substack.com/p/shared-scooters-dont-last-long?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=cta

Anyway, I wouldn't discourage you from giving it a shot — though it sounds like you're not proposing working on it personally. I just want to understand what's different about your approach from what's already been going on w/ Mastodon, Diaspora, et al.

    Twitter is like the Matrix.
Every few months/years someone trapped in Twitter reboots an idea to decentralize social media as The One (idea), gets attention & excited responses, not realizing they're just the latest cycle, soon to be forgotten by the next.
