The hardest part of being a developer isn't the code, it's learning that the entire internet is put together with peanut butter and goblins.

I don't think it's going to go out with a bang, but the slow decay has definitely already started. (the SMS verification codes don't work now)

Not for this *exact reason* but I have always been wary of "Sign in with X". I do not like having some other party own my users.
    Aaron Parecki
nobody could have predicted this 😂

but yeah, this is why the most common next step after logging in is these services asking for your email so they have a recovery path

If your web app uses Twitter to log users in, this would be a great time to add some alternative authentication methods!

You may also want to make a plan to handle account recovery for people who have already deleted their Twitter accounts...

Like: hey, what if we started dismantling a train while it was in motion? And then fired all the people who knew how to run it? It’ll keep coasting for a while, sure, but one pebble on the track and the whole thing is gonna crash.

Am hearing the number of Twitter resignations today is likely over 1,000, though unclear as not all are posting their decision.

Some teams, such as the engineering team that manages Twitter’s core system libraries, are completely gone now. https://www.theverge.com/2022/11/17/23465274/hundreds-of-twitter-employees-resign-from-elon-musk-hardcore-deadline

Story to be updated soon with more: Am hearing that several “critical” infra engineering teams at Twitter have completely resigned. “You cannot run Twitter without this team,” one current engineer tells me of one such group. Also, Twitter has shut off badge access to its offices.

    Syndicating to Mastodon

    Aaron Parecki
Have you considered making your website directly accessible from Mastodon and others? Bridgy Fed seems like it would integrate nicely with your workflow, since you've already got most of the pieces set up, and you could choose to send individual posts to your Mastodon followers with a webmention.

    https://fed.brid.gy

This way people could follow your website directly and you wouldn't need a separate account on any Mastodon server at all!
