To follow up on my thoughts about conferences.

1. The speaker perks were usually to get a T&E trip to a city to present. That will not happen for online events - how can conferences justify paying for a conference but not paying a speaker when they get nothing in return?

okay so, here's the thing. neural networks are cute and all but if you ever build a cyclical system that goes (collect data) -> (ML algorithm) -> (take actions that influence the original data pool) then what you are building is a very dangerous feedback loop

i have copyedited the blog post that is on the internet. with a light touch so it still says the same thing, just with fewer typos and a little more clarity. also, apologies to international folks: my global cdn configuration is imperfect so it's ~200ms slower than it should be
