YAML: the result of people ignoring the lessons from JSON (the result of people ignoring the lessons from XML). Now we’re ‘coding’ infra with 3000 line typeless, indentationsensitive markup, escaping it, then embed it in another 3000 line typeless, indentationsensitive file.

Oh, there is some support, you're right! https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/wemo/
    Aaron Parecki
Yikes the Wemo outlets have pretty bad reviews though. I think I'll look for a z-wave version instead of wifi.

This is great thank you! Do you have a smart plug that you like? I'm looking for something that monitors wattage, not just turns off/on. The Wemo Insight Smart Plug is the right kind of thing but it's not hacker friendly.
    Aaron Parecki
I haven't looked for that kind of thing yet. I thought the Wemo outlets let you talk directly to them on the LAN and also had Home Assistant support though!

@aaronpk this post doesn't federate properly on Mastodon as it gives me an invalid link to https://aaronparecki.comvideo.mp4/

    Aaron Parecki
Thanks! I just fixed it. No idea how to get Mastodon to update its cache of it though.

Last year, I finally got in the habit of catching up on my business accounting every 2 weeks. 💵 This year, I haven't even opened quickbooks since August. I really need to get back on track with that or tax season is going to be really painful.

Wow I feel dumb but I just figured something out. You know how when you launch Instagram you briefly see a photo before it scrolls way down the timeline, and you really want to see that photo, so spend the next several minutes scrolling for it and not leaving IG? Yeah… genius.
    Aaron Parecki
at first I thought you had found a solution for that... then it hit me 🤦‍♂️

I can’t decide if I actually have a use for this or not… a 15.6” thin (like iPad) external HDMI/USB-C monitor for $110. Add a second monitor to a laptop or even new iPad sounds clever. But do I *need* it? Damn sales… https://geni.us/mkwdmx

I have a 13" one that I use with my portable ATEM setup and it's fantastic. This is a ridiculously good deal!
