  • Does Design Really Matter for Start-Ups? (www.attackofdesign.com)
As soon as people hear about your product, they’ll start forming an opinion about it. You might as well control that opinion and align it with your own goals.

/me just typed "mysql" instead of "myself". Clearly there has been too much code today.

    Don't fear the JOIN. http://aaron.pk/bookmarks/?bookmark=joins-are-fast
    Sun, Jun 19, 2011 6:34pm -07:00
  • Joins are fast (stackoverflow.com)
Joins are fast. Joins should be considered standard practice with a properly normalized database schema. Don't fear the join. It's true that join performance degrades non-linearly as the size of the data set increases. Therefore, it doesn't scale as nicely as single table queries, but it still does scale. It's also true that a bird flies faster without any wings, but only straight down.

@caseorganic - I don't have any examples immediately to hand, they are indeed rarer. Most common in music apps

@enterity @caseorganic I was about to say, this is a good example from Reason: http://s3.amazonaws.com/giles/propellerhead_reason4_thor.jpg
