It just occurred to me that YouTube is named after a completely obsolete technology

@aaronpk I dare say as viewing devices, maybe obsolete. But as a technology, less so. Tubes are still manufactured and used for things like x-ray machines and nuclear weapon triggers.

This made me look it up. I knew CRTs were out, but figured some vacuum tubes somewhere were preferable. I was wrong, except for audiophiles and their amps, but I don’t count them on account of them being so annoying everyone wants to punch them in the face.

I will use the floppy disk icon as a symbol that means “save” until it is pried from my cold dead hands.

The still-used phone 📞 symbol is of a telephone many kids these days have never seen. My son saw one in a hotel room and asked what it was.

@aaronpk If The Boring Company really had been serious about its plans, we could maybe eventually have our own tubes. It’s now 16 years since I bought my flat TV, one that I still use.

What's obsolete: Second person singular or plural?
