Every time i use my Windows computer I feel like I'm stuck under water and every time i press a button some other button gets pressed instead.

I'm sure it's fine if you're used to it, but wow I just feel incompetent trying to use it.

aaand the problem persists. The keys do not seem to be properly handled on a device driver level or something is worng with inter-process communication as both OS and browser level UI elements fire, but no "feedback" to the requesting element is provided

I was chatting with @wi_ing and somehow all security key (WebAuthn) registration and authentication on his WIN11 stopped working after a windows update. It was very odd!

I feel the same way when I have to use a Mac. I have my migraine meds handy.

@aaronpk The only thing that bothered me using Windows after 15+ years of OSX were the shortcuts. I've remapped everything with PowerToys.

I switch my keyboard type when moving between Windows and Mac. Windows one is a Dell mechanical. Mac one is an Apple one. They feel different enough that it helps with the muscle memory.

My experience w Win11 hasn’t been great… on spankin’ new MS hardware. I don’t dare imagining the situation for 3rd parties, tho Razer is supposed to be one of the best serviced ones

It's the Razer Stealth 13, I bought it in 2019 so it's not exactly new, but it was new and best of class at the time! I did just update it to Windows 11 because it basically forced me to.

What laptop do you have? I am on a Surface Pro 8 and the responsiveness is fully comparable to the MBP pro… well, the win10 one, at least. I have another SP8 w win11 and that one is indeed a bit laggy 😅

Oh yeah — with a bad physical track pad it's Impossible. I tried that years ago and gave up: onebigfluke.com/2017/04/discov… At least when I'm using a Mac emulating Windows I get to use a decent keyboard and trackpad even if the mappings are slightly different. Abort!

oh gosh, I feel like I'm using an emulator every time I interact with this physical windows laptop. It just doesn't respond as fast, the trackpad is wildly less accurate, it feels like I'm one step removed from the interactions with the computer

@aaronpk I have very much the same experience when I use Mac, so I really do think it's just about what you're used to. I'm thinking about buying a Mac and spending time on it just to build up familiarity.

@aaronpk I have this same feeling whenever I try to help my mother with her windows laptop after using my chromebook all the time.

Its like wading through treacle. Its truly so terrible despite being brand new that I just dont understand it.

After hacking on Windows native MSVC builds for about a month in an emulator, it stopped feeling so weird. But it was a struggle for weeks. Muscle memory is extremely hard to overcome. "Mind over matter" — I think not.
