I wrote up some thoughts about how Bluesky can/should support OAuth, both for applications to access users' accounts, as well as allowing users to log in to their bsky.social account using their own website!

Oh yeah definitely. BlueSky should both accept IndieAuth as a signin method and work as an IndieAuth provider – especially since usernames are domain names anyways. And of course hopefully eventually they’ll interoperate with ActivityPub, Micropub, etc…… shreyanjain.net/?p=130

Given the goal is to be an open, decentralized protocol for the intended app vertical that spans the global audience of social media users, I agree with Tim that Android makes more sense as the P1.

Depends on the goals of the prototype I guess. That's above my pay grade.

Wouldn't you want to prototype with the largest and most diverse group of users first?

eh it's an open protocol, ideally there is no "official" client at all. Anyone can make an Android client. They're just prototyping it on iOS for now.

support for the most widely used OS in the world would be nice before that :)

@aaronpk How should #mastodon and other #fediverse apps support #oauth? Can we have a better experience than "enter your server URL here to follow"?

Hi, I'm Aaron Parecki, Director of Identity Standards at Okta, and co-founder of IndieWebCamp. I maintain oauth.net, write and consult about OAuth, and participate in the OAuth Working Group at the IETF. I also help people learn about video production and livestreaming. (detailed bio)

I've been tracking my location since 2008 and I wrote 100 songs in 100 days. I've spoken at conferences around the world about owning your data, OAuth, quantified self, and explained why R is a vowel. Read more.
