We can continue to work on tools and UX in a goal to make it a reality. I can see identity providers, identity hubs, and storage provides both for PII data and public data and Apps that work on top of it. Users can have a consent area for advertising to help fund it.

I need to write more about this, but you see Indie Auth has a massive ecosystem emergence challenge: it requires users to change their behavior (e.g. buying a domain name) and there are billions of them. Then, on top of that, relying parties. Too many miracles.

Love it too! I'm pretty proud of owning and running my own domain too. I don't federate out, but generally buy much of indie auth's design. I actually think DNS is decentralized enough for my taste, but is rather difficult/expensive to set up and run a website (comparatively).

Hi, I'm Aaron Parecki, Director of Identity Standards at Okta, and co-founder of IndieWebCamp. I maintain oauth.net, write and consult about OAuth, and participate in the OAuth Working Group at the IETF. I also help people learn about video production and livestreaming. (detailed bio)

I've been tracking my location since 2008 and I wrote 100 songs in 100 days. I've spoken at conferences around the world about owning your data, OAuth, quantified self, and explained why R is a vowel. Read more.
