@aaronpk Aaron, so many popular youtubers dealing with bogus copyright claims now... what is missing on the open source video streaming platforms for them to make the
switch? Is it "just" a matter of network effects?

    Aaron Parecki
Yeah there's a lot more to it than just pushing out a video stream. Discovery and payments are the two big reasons to use YouTube/Twitch.

If you stream on your own website, nobody will know unless you tell them thru some other network. If you also want to monetize that you have to sell your own ads.

@aaronpk Lawyer up and hit em hard. False DMCA claims are no Kavaliersdelikt (there‘s one for your German lessons).

  • 🔴 We need to talk ... Live Q&A about Content ID and copyright on YouTube

Orchard Music sent a content ID claim on one of my livestreams! The trouble is, the song that matched was published 2 weeks ago, and my livestream was from *last year*! I did a bit of digging, and it turns out a comedian used an Artlist song during the closing of his set, so when that album got published YouTube now thinks he owns the copyright to that song.

This morning in front of my house, a driver rammed their sedan into the front of a parked SUV with enough force to push the SUV partway onto the car parked behind it.

@PBOTinfo, this is a Neighborhood Greenway. When are you going to make it so drivers CANNOT drive like this?

It's here! The new PK1 cage for the YoloBox!

This cage is the mobile complement to the desktop version of the stand. This cage has two aluminum bars for attaching a variety of mounting brackets including handles, cheese plates, or this Smallrig monitor mount which then lets you mount a camera on top! The handles also have cold shoe mounts built in for even more options.

I can't wait to get a chance to use this on the road during my next trip!

Decentralization already exists on the web, it’s called “making an HTML page and putting stuff on it”. All this new shit isn’t gonna make it any easier, it’ll all be just as centralized and commodified and funded by awful venture capitalists.

OAuth? Oh, yeah! Does that sound familiar? No, it’s not a movie from the late ‘80s. OAuth is a carrier-free telecommunications service that enables users to access Home Phone, Mobile Phone and VoIP services anywhere in the US without additional charges.

I work in software security and unfortunately my experience is “most people will be unable to understand or spot these traps”. Fall back on your human instincts - if you’re feeling greedy, scared, or a rush of excitement, stop and think. Those are a good sign you’re being conned.

There are simplifications you’ve been told (“sign this to approve the sale of 1 NFT”) that are actually dangerously broad (“sign this to trust the other person to take only 1 NFT”). A clever person noticed the difference & violated the trust. A better system would prevent this.

A single malicious signature can rug *all* of your approved OpenSea NFTs. No need to sign an individual sell order for each one, as originally assumed.

This is how today's hacker stole 10 Azukis, 8 mfers, and 3 mutant apes in a single transaction, with a single sig.
