I wish @aaronpk 's Watchtower/Aperture/Monocle was much simpler to install for anyone:

β€ͺMe too! I've been thinking about rolling Watchtower into Aperture so it's just one app. Aperture is based on Laravel so there's plenty of tools and support for deploying that already. It's just a *lot* of work simplifying and documenting this stuff to make it easier for others.

The contacts list in my phone is not a list of my friends. There are people on that list that I never want to hear from and that I would prefer not to have any information about what I'm doing. I will never want to send an invite to anything to my contacts list.

anyway, i think that social media silos of all kinds (including and especially twitter) are bad, and that people should instead publish their views on their own websites. if only there were a specification that allowed for people to easily do that...

Indieweb uses JSON where it makes sense - in Micropub and Microsub for example; Webmention was designed to work with any web resource, not just JSON ones.
Microformats define a way to get consistent JSON out of HTML web pages, and plenty of tooling to do it
