I just started playing with 'FlightGear' which works free on linux

We’re a couple of sad, sad people.

We have a friend you can talk to if u want. He really enjoys it and he owns a plane with friends and they take turns. He also does angel flights. He also has a small plane he built and flys acrobatics in.

I started buying the sparkling wine @AlaskaAir serves in first class 🙈

If you are a pilot then check your FAA license - it has no expiry date, agreed? Re "at cost" trips, VFR is much slower, more expensive/mile, vulnerable to weather and uses inconvenient airports vs commercial flights. It's uncompetitive even if it was legal.

You never lose your licence. You can stop flying for 20 years, then get current with a CFI, get a fresh medical then legally go fly. Pilots don't sell "at cost" trips because FAR 61.113 makes it it mostly illegal ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-i… Are you a pilot?

Not like we can travel right now anyway. tbh if they made a flight simulator which was just waiting in a boarding line and sitting in planes I'd play the crap out of that right now.

Running a broadcast studio does though, but those who fly just love it. I had to tone it down a bit and have motorcycles for projects.

There’s ongoing costs, too. You can’t just /keep/ a pilot’s license. You have to use it. If you don’t fly a minimum number of hours a year, you lose it. So you’ll have to rent planes. Lots of pilots sell “at cost” trips to travelers to fund their hours.

I got mine with about $12k. Best decision of my life. I now own a Beech Sierra and am on my way through my instrument license. Happy to answer qs.

In SF, perhaps. In Seattle it can be done for less than $10k easily

Say that gives me an idea... ATEM Simulator... you have to live switch an event and you lose points for every cut you mess up 😂

To keep it you have to keep paying for flight time, too :-/ very expensive hobby.

How did you master an ATEM mixer if it wasn't for doing the hours of practical work?

So much tech involved now with Garmin GPS screens compared to when I started. Still need to be able to read a map, a weather chart and a compass.

Just practice Aaron. Take a TIF(which isn't expensive) and find a good instructor that you can relate to. Doing take-off & landings needs to be done frequently at first to gain the insight, but other than that, flying can be done at a leisurely pace.

Why just settle for a tool that allows you to live in a room, rather than go explore the real world? Simulators have their place, especially in ground-school applications to explain flight concepts to newbies and re-qualifying pilots.

At least with a flight simulator rig, you can sell it if you lose interest in it.
