I made more progress on the cat feeder tonight!
I attached the motor to the back, and the shaft now goes thru and connects to the original (modified) plastic shaft from the dispenser.
The lid has an ultrasonic distance sensor pointing down at the food to be able to tell how much is left in the chute.
There's a button on top to be able to manually dispense a dose.
Lastly, I added a terminal block to connect the wires from the scale for easier mounting to the processor later.
Next up, I need to start connecting all the components to the circuitry! The load cell amplifier, stepper motor driver, and finally the esp32 controller. Then it'll be time to write some software!

@aaronpk does your Z-Wave software allow you to reorganize the network? I found that to be essential to fixing some connectivity issues I had. I’m using the Razberry / ZWay software. Post organization the mesh-ness was much more reliable for me.
There's a "heal network" button or something, but tbh I don't have enough z-wave devices to try it. Also my apartment is like 600 sq ft so pretty much everything is in direct line of sight to the receiver 😂 -

@aaronpk gotcha! In my case I’ve been impressed with the performance of the ZWave devices but you’ve definitely tried more things than I have!
I'm also hesitant to go all z-wave because the devices tend to be a lot more expensive! If any of my other stuff starts failing in weird ways I'll give it a shot tho, maybe the cost is actually worth something. -

@aaronpk makes sense. I’ve got a larger residence, and I wanted in-wall switches so my wife & kids could keep using their muscle memory, which left us with zwave and weird stuff like Leviton as the options.
I'm glad that's working! I'm also testing this stuff out so that when I end up in a bigger place I know what to get, and I definitely want every light switch to be connected to the system! -
I paid for my first font license today. I'm starting to feel like a grown up 🤣

My iPhone XS Max broke and Apple replaced it with a brand new one...should I just sell this BRAND NEW iPhone XS Max on eBay....pay off the debt ($500ish) and keep the profit then get the next thing? LOL
