Sometimes when I'm sitting on the plane about to take off, looking out the window at the other planes flying by, my mind starts wandering thinking "what would happen if..." and I end up googling some disaster. Today I landed on this Wikipedia page https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_%C3%9Cberlingen_mid-air_collision

@aaronpk In that situation, there are two teams of highly-trained professionals keeping you safe. (Pilots & air traffic controllers) You’re better off there than almost anywhere on earth.

There are certainly good and valid reasons to travel. But. When I’m on a plane, I always google Climate disaster. That’s a sure thing for all of us unless we fly much less, at least until electrical flight.

Love your work Aron! This is not a personal critique in any way, ok?

@aaronpk I started out casually watching aviation simulations, but now I watch everything by [this guy on YouTube.] I don't think he's covered the Überlingen story, though. My point is, having watched enough of these, they don't make me nervous now. In fact, my confidence in air travel is strengthened, because I have learned how many things have to go wrong for an accident to happen (definitely true for Überlingen) and how over time air travel has been made safer and safer.

I recommend the TV series "Mayday" (alias "Air Crash Investigation"). It's not only interesting but also surprisingly accurate.
