My GPS tracking app is live in the App Store! It's ugly, but it works, and now you can use it too! https://overland.p3k.io

@sl007 looks nice. I'm not gonna port my app to that platform any time soon tho!

@aaronpk Does saying it is in the App Store also say that it only works on Apple devices?

    Aaron Parecki
Yeah I'm not going to write an Android version. That's a whole different platform, totally different way of working with location APIs, etc. A friend wrote a similar app though if you want an Android one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.icecondor.nest&hl=en

Have to have 11.0 to install it! Updating now
    Aaron Parecki
@cheryl_crowe yep I was lazy and did not worry about backwards compatibility. To the future! and beyond!

Installing now! Very excited. Love @RideReportApp, but want multimodal & refuse to reinstall FB Moves app since they lied about sharing data
    Aaron Parecki
@karabaic uhoh I hadn't heard about Moves. The only downside with this app is 1) trip tracking is manual, and 2) it's BYOB.

@edolnx Your streaming postmortem writeup is excellent, and a great reminder of why I use dedicated hardware instead of computers for this!

Need any design help let me know.
    Aaron Parecki
@mdusing Thanks! Sadly I don't think my iOS skills are good enough to be able to implement any real design ideas.

    What hardware are you using?
    Aaron Parecki
@edolnx This is my "mini" rig https://aaronparecki.com/2016/10/08/15/multi-camera-portable-live-video but sometimes I use the new Blackmagic Studio HD https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/atemtelevisionstudiohd

Neat! We make heavy use of compositing and on-screen graphics so I don't know if it would be a good solution for us, but thanks for sharing.
    Aaron Parecki
@edolnx You can use a dedicated computer just for titling and then green-screen it onto the video! I'd take a look at the Blackmagic one.

@edolnx and if you're talking about spending ~$15k then you can probably afford one of the fancier BMD ones for even more layer support!

@aaronpk You've been tracking your location for yrs. Have you written anything about whether this info can remain private, and how does Google, or anyone, make money off your own location tracking? Is Big Brother watching & should we care?

    Aaron Parecki
I don't usually get into that side of things. Too little actual information available.

Good to know. We did spend about $15k but that was for three stages and including audio systems (for attendees) for each stage
    Aaron Parecki
@edolnx including audio that's pretty good. I'll be curious to read your follow-up post after you've tuned the system a bit more!
