It's also a "in case of emergency, I am capable of contacting others". That's the purpose of the custom plates. It's kind of like buildings with safe space logos on them.

In general, the amateur radio community is super friendly and is up for a chat any time. However, a call sign alone isn't enough to contact someone, since you'd have to know what frequency they're listening on too! There are some standard "calling frequencies" but I'm not sure how often that kind of contact actually happens. I'm also just kind of curious what drivers will think when they see a bike with a license plate on it!

So what''s the general protocol? You see someone with one of these plates, and just dial up and say "Hi ! Who are you?"

Well I only have a handheld radio right now so it's not hard. I see lots of cars with these plates tho! Figured since I don't have a car I can join the party that way
