Yeah I have renter's insurance but it has a $1000 deductible which is about the cost of the bike

There's still hope. At the last building, someone broke in to the garage and then broke into the bike room and stole 3 bikes. The police ended up catching and arresting him!

Sad. But basically the thieves suffer no consequences.

That's pretty bad. I'm currently in a similar situation where the bike room is inside a locked garage, but fortunately I haven't had a bike stolen yet *knocks on wood*

In my undergrad in Eugene someone broke into the complexes bike cage and took ALL the bikes overnight. Like ... thirty of them.

Meanwhile people leave their bikes in their backyard without locking them.

What's crazy is the building I just moved out of had a locked bike room inside the locked garage, and still 3 bikes were stolen out of it one night. I lucked out that time.

Damn, that sucks. Bike thieves are the worst. Go look under the freeway off of the east side esplanade trail. A lot of bikes end up there.
