Very cool boarding pass redesign! https://medium.com/design-ux/c72084d7793e Sadly it's posted on @medium and likely won't last long. http://indiewebcamp.com/site-deaths

@scottjenson @BarnabyWalters @chrismessina @ade_oshineye This was a Branch thread? I had no idea. Join us on IRC, info here: http://indiewebcamp.com/IRC

@JoyfulAbode Yeah I think that's a great description of Instagram! I know what you mean about wanting to keep in touch with the people there though. That's why a lot of us are building tools to help with that: http://indiewebcamp.com/POSSE, although I doubt we'll ever be able to push our own photos to Instagram.

Adapted my JS technique for reply interface to be a bookmarklet, complete with a custom icon! Here is my Chrome browser now: http://aaronparecki.com/files/browser-reply-button.gif #indieweb

  • Better syndication support for silos

New problem: My notes do not have a "u-syndication" link to the app.net version like they do for the Twitter versions, because my code has no idea that app.net syndicated my post automatically using PourOver.

@snarfed_org Yeah, we do keep http://indiewebcamp.com/events up to date very well, but the page could use a bit of cleanup in terms of presentation

Hacked together a quick bookmarklet so I can get a keyboard shortcut to reply to people' #indieweb notes!

The trick is that you can add a custom search engine in Chrome (right click on the URL bar and click "edit search engines" to see how many you already have!) but instead of defining a URL pattern, you can put in Javascript!

Now once I'm on a URL I'm replying to, I type "r" in the URL bar and it jumps over to my site! The result:

Thanks for the suggestion! It would be cool to use the LINK verb.

The problem is that it's way less likely to actually get adoption using the LINK verb. The discovery step adds an opportunity to add a layer of indirection, which lets us separate the server that handles the webmention. While discovery is an extra step, but at the same time it provides a lot of benefits. For example, it wouldn't be possible to have a static HTML site handle the HTTP LINK request, whereas it could delegate to a webmention service by using the link tag. Additionally, some hosting environments may not provide a way to handle the LINK request where a normal POST would work instead.

Because of the benefits and flexibility the discovery step adds, we need to stick with it and can't use the LINK verb as cool as that would be.

@aaronpk non sequitor, why include a twitter card with each of your tweet that repeats the tweet?
    Aaron Parecki
@FarshadNayeri heh, experimenting, still some glitches. It's nice when my post is longer than Twitter's limit so you can see more inline, but yes it's redundant when they are identical. Check out the #indieweb wiki for more background info: http://indiewebcamp.com/POSSE

Hi, I'm Aaron Parecki, Director of Identity Standards at Okta, and co-founder of IndieWebCamp. I maintain oauth.net, write and consult about OAuth, and participate in the OAuth Working Group at the IETF. I also help people learn about video production and livestreaming. (detailed bio)

I've been tracking my location since 2008 and I wrote 100 songs in 100 days. I've spoken at conferences around the world about owning your data, OAuth, quantified self, and explained why R is a vowel. Read more.
