No it ain’t. Universally, “100” has long been a round number used to convey there being an abundance of something. “40” has never been that. 40 Celsius means something to you, because you grew with that. To people who didn’t, it’s not a big enough number to signify anything.

IETF 114 reminded me how important the in person social hallway, bar and dinner conversations are to standards development.

They had this idea that talking publicly about security problems (in locks) is without value, dangerous, and inherently suspicious, and should be reserved for “official” members of their trade. I don’t agree with them about this.

I just learned that there's a coven of locksmiths STILL mad at me because of this paper I published twenty years ago. So let me repost it here.

I remember a story about a person who had an absurd log file to parse, and it was too large to look at with any reasonable method, so they turned it into an audio file and listened to it. When the pattern changed dramatically, they went right to the distinct area.

I’ve read here and there about how autistic people aren’t able to recognise social hierarchies. Obviously I can’t speak for everyone, but in my experience it’s not that I haven’t been able to recognise them, it’s that I don’t respect them and I don’t care 🙃

So apparently the TSB banking app is failing, and users are being presented with an error message “Not enough good slaves” - which, to non-technical users, is unexpected.

I do feel that the move a few years ago to remove master/slave terminology from computing was the right one.

I am not 'doom scrolling', I am 'dopamine foraging'.

The mindset of using modern technology is only trusting it here and now but always having backups and alternatives

Metaverse: What if online shopping but more time consuming and tedious?

Blockchain: What if a distributed database but much slower and insecure?

NFTs: What if JPGs but for idiots?
