years after the hype died out, 3d printing lives on with niche products on etsy, and i must admit, it's cool. custom lampshades, a lil organizer for my aeropress - they're things that benefit from that ability to do tiny quantities of custom things.

the hype died out, and now it’s just useful?

This is why I always refused the argument “embedded browsers are bad because they don’t show the address bar”.
Here’s FB’s EMBEDDED browser showing an address bar… and it can show *whatever* the app developer wants in there. Also, capture all your keystrokes.
    Aaron Parecki
That’s the point of the argument though, it’s not about whether there is an address bar visible, it’s whether it’s the *real* system address bar. Unfortunately it’s nearly impossible to enforce or accurately communicate to users tho.

Software's conformance to standards and its certification is not the pinnacle to shoot for. It is the absolute lowest bar.

Croatian grammar really out here like “going to coffee with a friend is a PLACE”
And “whether or not you are thinking about going somewhere or are actually there will completely change the ending of this noun”

I propose we rename "VC funding" for "mortgage". Nobody goes around saying "oh wow I got this massive mortgage".

If you are insecure and what you are looking is validation, I will write you a letter with words of encouragement for free saying how awesome you are.

Damning evidence that the Internet (as embodied by the @ietf, @openid, IIW and others) has failed to provide user-centric, non-centralised authentication despite more than 20 years of discussing it. Is it too hard, or are the incentives just too misaligned?

I’m not about giving startups any security free passes because historically startups do the bad thing until getting caught: GitHub employees could look at all your private repos 4 years in. Uber had god mode for a very long time. None of them STARTED by thinking about security.
