okay, surprise twist! the support person hit me up a day later and said they talked to their boss on my behalf. they sent me my activation key!

this was a very pleasant turn of events and I’m back in the Blackmagic fan camp (though I’d still love to see more modern key mgmt)

    glad to hear it!

These days he’s mostly channeling this energy for good. He’s reading a JS book @sarah_edo lent me and quizzes me on how JS vars work. 😂 He loves it when I make a mistake.

I'm so glad you've kept this thread going for 2 years, that was quite the journey 😅

don't inconvenience yourself too much, but if you've got the spare cycles: I have my serial numbers for the speed editor and Resolve Studio license and this is a ~2-week-old purchase — it feels like this would be a very easy fix for them if they wanted it to be
    Aaron Parecki
Sent an email. Will let you know when I hear back, but we're now heading into the holidays so I can't promise a timely response 😅

@aaronpk One of the versions of this inside Twitter for a while was named “voices”, which I always liked the feel of. Being able to follow either an entire account or specific channels has some interesting utility, for sure.

    Aaron Parecki
ohh did this get prototyped but never shipped? I think it'd be really interesting for sure! The good news is we can just do this on the web instead!

One interesting thing to explore with having my own domain on here is being able to separate create utility accounts strongly associated with my name. @blog, as a very simple initial example.

    Aaron Parecki
Ages ago I built a social network that worked like that! You could create categories under your account and people could follow all or some of them. I called them "channels" then.

@aaronpk probably knows some folks there rather than a generic news feed
    Aaron Parecki
oof yeah that's tough, a side effect of the low tech activation key mechanism they use. I can reach out to my contacts to help if you'd like tho.

@aaronpk since putting on Schwalbe Marathon I had not a single puncture, I can highly recommend those

Thanks I might have to try that next

I’ve long since given in to the luxury of allowing a specialist to fix my bike tires. The walk-up window at @SellwoodCycle has 100% spoiled me…
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah this may be the answer 😬 Until about last year I always went to a bike shop if I had a flat. Barely ever had flats. Replaced my tubes three times this year and got a flat again shortly after each time. I am clearly not cut out to be a bike mechanic.

So far today is going great. I tried to fix my bike's flat tire and it went flat again an hour later. And now my external SSDs aren't mounting which is making it very hard to do work.

Can I call in a "technical difficulties day"? It's like a sick day but for my stuff.
    Aaron Parecki
The nice part of replacing my tube twice in one day means I'm getting faster at disassembling and reassembling the whole rear wheel on the Brompton. Took only 18 minutes the second time!

Maybe I should schedule monthly sessions to keep practicing.

@aaronpk When I get back-to-back flats like what you reported, I spend like, 15 minutes thoroughly inspecting the tire for embedded metal/glass/thorns. Sometimes they can hide incredibly well and don’t poke their pokey bits out until the tire is inflated. So, lots of flexing and feeling around the inside of the tire.

    Aaron Parecki
I will do that. Last time the flat was on the seam of the tube. This time it was on the side. Could be a pinch flat, since it had been a couple weeks since I last pumped up my tires.

@aaronpk I worked at bike shops for a dozen years and rarely ever got flats. I got a better paying job in tech and my flats-in-a-year rate has gone up, no joke, at least 5x. I’ve angered the bike gods.

    Aaron Parecki
lol! This is my third flat this year too, after having previously had only like one flat on this bike since I got it in 2017. I don't know what I'm doing wrong at this point!

I hear that. I had *finally* gotten my Global Entry in 2020, and had a trip to Singapore ready to roll...
Alas, it was not meant to be.
But one thing I discovered is just how much time was wasted in travel - and it definitely changed how I operated.
    Aaron Parecki
absolutely! The few trips I've done this year have really made that very clear to me, especially contrasting with the previous year of a packed schedule of virtual events.

@aaronpk Tell me more about P3k!

    Aaron Parecki
It's my home-grown CMS that powers my website, I rebuilt my site in 2016 to be the central hub of all my online activity. Some design notes here: https://indieweb.org/p3k

Totally separately, I have https://aaronpk.tv for my YouTube channel, which indexes all my livestreams, including the questions from the chat that you can search! https://aaronpk.tv/questions/?s=yolobox

Realize that traveling for work is usually a massive time waste & cut it by 80% for next year. The best way to recover, is not to continually put yourself in the same cycle.
    Aaron Parecki
At the end of 2019, after 40 cities and 97 days on planes, I told myself I was going to significantly cut my travel down for 2020. Turns out that plan kind of made itself 😂😬

On my YouTube channel tonight I’ll be discussing some ways I’ve implemented #indieweb practices into my work. I’ll also look at some things I’d like to do in the future.

Would love to get some feedback from the experts ! Video goes live at 6:45 pm and will also be linked here when it goes live.

    Aaron Parecki
wow, my worlds colliding! I've been following your YouTube for years now!

I'd love to chat more about this. I've been putting a bunch of #IndieWeb principles to work on my YouTube channel as well!

Anyone know how to fix an issue where someone looks suspended on Mastodon but I know they aren't? Trying to follow my buddy @aaronpk@aaronparecki.com but it says his account is suspended :o
    Aaron Parecki
weird, I think it means I am blocked by the instance. You should email the instance admin to find out why. I'm curious too!

Is your website stack open-source? I'm keen to implement something more than just webfinger on mine and am looking for inspiration.
    Aaron Parecki
It's not, but mostly because it's pretty messy. I do have this which is a standalone ActivityPub project meant to integrate into other sites, needs some updates though. https://github.com/aaronpk/Nautilus

Did you build the activity pub stuff yourself or are you using something under the hood?
    Aaron Parecki
I built it directly into my site in like 2018. Finally paid off haha
