App ideas for dog owners:

- type in a movie and find out when/if there are animal noises that will freak them out
- scan your leftovers, see if anything bad for dogs in there
- collar sensor, alerts when they are in cute/weird positions that are amusing

I was trying to figure out how these were related 😅

Habanero Hot Sauce

Made 108oz hot sauce.

The store was low on habanero peppers so about half of this is red Fresno peppers, and it's noticeably more red than normal.

I forgot to use an apple this time, and also used just 2tsp corn starch. It seemed to work fine though, especially after blending.

Do I want an @insta360 X3? For those who have them… do you use it often or does it get old quickly? https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1594839732969693184

I have the X2 and it's a lot of fun! I mostly use it for 360 photos and time warp videos. Using the editor is a little time consuming, and I definitely wouldn't edit anything longer than 30 seconds with it.

You guys are really trying to find Twitter alternatives your audience won’t go to instead of just starting an email list huh?

Like another app can’t go down, or get bought by someone you dislike?

Just start a damn email list.

You’re welcome . 😂

Email, the original social network 😇

But I'm still waiting for you to point out where I said it's ok for a driver to plow through pedestrians

I will admit I jumped to conclusions when you cited ORS 814 if you admit that it is victim blaming and wrong to say that the cyclists contributed to this incident at all

I'm sorry, please point out exactly where I said it was ok to plow down pedestrians.

Acting as though the cyclists did anything unreasonable here is just not a good faith argument. I'm not sure what you wanted them to do differently.

Keep in mind that if he *had* started crossing any earlier, the van would have hit more than his front wheel.

I saw that still and I asked him why they waited for the signal to start blinking don't walk.

I don't think I want to live in your world where it's perfectly acceptable to plow down pedestrians for entering the crosswalk the split second it starts counting down.

That driver blew the red light, there's no situation in which a pedestrian or biker is at fault for that.

A pedestrian who has started crossing a roadway on a signal showing “Walk” or any other approved symbol to proceed shall proceed with dispatch to a sidewalk or safety island while a signal is showing “Wait” or “Don’t Walk”

Nobody is victim blaming. What is being said is that had these cyclists been more cautious and obeyed their own traffic control devices that he wouldn't have been hit. I am more than willing to give these cyclists a safety course.

In your still frame, you've circled the crosswalk as it's counting down, it's well over 9 seconds at that point. I'm sure you're aware that crosswalk signals start counting down while it's still safe for pedestrians to be crossing.

@aaronpk I read through https://aaronparecki.com/tag/activitypub some, but would be curious to read more about your setup sometime. Your site has often been an inspiration for me to experiment with various ideas. I’ve also been wondering what a list/circle based federation client would look like 🤔

Thanks! I realized I haven't actually written about this whole setup recently, but I do have a few older posts that describe how everything is connected. I'm probably due for a new blog post to talk more about this!

@aaronpk what is the value in this over my own Pleroma or Masto instance? Or my webfinger implementation

That's a good question. I'd say, running your own Mastodon instance is a real commitment to upkeep and software updates. Also you probably don't want your actual home page to be the mastodon landing page, so you'd run it on an alternate domain or a subdomain, neither of which are ideal IMO.

As for the WebFinger route, that's only a halfway solution because the posts themselves live on your shared mastodon domain not your own. It's not terrible tho.

Thanks! Hoping in the invisible hand of the market to come up with something turnkey 😅

The closest to that right now is probably https://micro.blog

It hosts your website, supports ActivityPub natively, and can also cross-post to Twitter

@ActiveNick @thomasfuchs you can also setup webfinger on your own domain to make yourself easier to find

if you want to go all in and use your own website as your fediverse identity, you can use this: https://fed.brid.gy/

@aaronpk are you filtering? I’ve had to actively filter on here to keep bad stuff away. Filtering for “RT “ and “@twitter.com” helped enormously.

That's not a bad idea. I'm not filtering that kind of stuff out yet.

Do you post the same content on both Twitter and Mastodon? If so, do you have a client to recommend?
I just feel I won’t post on Mastodon unless it’s the path of least resistance

You are not going to like my answer, but it is the path of least resistance for me.

I post *everything* first to my website, and my website handles syndicating it to Twitter and via ActivityPub.
