@aaronpk yikes. Is there a sticker inside the breaker box as to who installed and approved it?

    Aaron Parecki
I mean, it's a 40 unit apartment building, you'd think someone would have double checked these things

    2) it took me 5 tries to find the breaker for the dishwasher. The one labeled dishwasher didn't turn anything off. Eventually I found that the one labeled "kit lights/living room" turns off the dishwasher

I can't wait to overengineer the crap out of the circuits for my new house.

Yesss give me 20A outlets on the ceiling and at twice the minimum density on the walls, preferably on two different circuits!

And why not throw a few floor outlets in there while you're at it

Whoever did the electrical wiring in this apartment should have their license revoked.

    1) the circuit marked "bedrooms" serves literally every lower outlet in the entire place, including both bedrooms and the living room, and the only place to hook up an AC ...

can a blog be an activitypub server, so i don't have to do some rss->mastodon zapier hook or whatever, you could just follow a website directly in mastodon?
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah sort of, if you don't want to DIY the whole thing your best bet is https://fed.brid.gy

I linked to some other options depending on what you're looking for here https://aaronparecki.com/@aaronpk

If you’re also a super old Twitter user let me know by DM if you’d like to participate. But you have to be super old or were involved in that early period. And maybe we can get a conversation going.

Happy to announce that Lost for Words, my wife Ami's new card game, is out now!

    https://lostforwords.cards/

It's a game that lets you explore hard-to-translate feelings from around the world, with over 300 words from over 70 languages.

Like the rest of the Pink Tiger Games catalog, I made the website and helped with the visual design and editing. Check it out!

@aaronpk I've built a custom backend for Overland (thx for building it!) and am gathering data now. Wanted to ask what cloud service(s) you use to look up city from point, weather from point?
    Aaron Parecki
Nice! If it's available to others I'll link to it from the page!

All the tools I use for location lookups are here, you can dig into the source code for details, or run your own copy! https://github.com/aaronpk/Atlas

I wish it was possible to do this with just GitHub workflow and GitHub pages.
    Aaron Parecki
Tell me about it! I tried really hard to push for simplicity in the spec, to enable exactly that use case, but sadly did not win that argument.

How did you choose your Mastodon provider?
    Aaron Parecki
or you can be your own provider! I wrote up some options that don't involve running your own Mastodon instance here: https://aaronparecki.com/@aaronpk

@aaronpk That's not too bad! I had expected a much heavier message load. What are you running your instance on?

    Aaron Parecki
Keep in mind I'm only following just over 100 people right now. It's a bunch of hand-rolled code.

    @aaronpk What's the unit on the y-axis? If it's posts-per-day that doesn't look too bad, but I suspect that's not it πŸ˜€

    Aaron Parecki
Yeah it is! well not "posts" exactly, but all ActivityPub messages received per day.

@aaronpk What determines that number? Is it something like the combined number of messages posted by the people you follow and the people that follow you?

    Aaron Parecki
There's a lot of things. Posts from everyone I follow. Replies and likes of those posts. If you delete a post it sends a Delete activity. There's also a *ton* of redundant account Delete activities sent for some reason too.

I’m not going to tolerate a cult of reality deniers. Simply mentioning that most of company (bird) has been fired or quit is not political or biased.
If you’re going to continue hallucinogenic nonsense to everyone online, you’re going to find it increasingly difficult to exist
    Aaron Parecki
lol I had someone comment a much more polite version of that on my last stream and I was just like πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I don't get how some people are able to ignore the basic facts, or treat reporting on facts as "political"

@aaronpk Ah. Weren't you the one who wrote it's PHP implementation? Or didn't you help with it?

    Aaron Parecki
I later rebuilt an PHP ActivityPub implementation as a separate service, API only. But I only use it for bots. I've been meaning to rip out my internal mess and switch over to that but I'm not excited about that project.

@aaronpk Isn't your whole site a custom pile of code? And that's why only parts of p3k are fully open source?

    Aaron Parecki
Yes, but the ActivityPub stuff in particular is pretty messy.
