@theadhocracy because the site you referenced is aggregating links - what happens when the author changes the title, for example? Could this be solved with webmentions as well?

    Aaron Parecki
That's exactly how it works! If you update your post on your site, you can re-send the webmention to news.indieweb.org and it will pull in the new content. I built that site ages ago to demonstrate this exact idea of aggregating posts from individuals' websites.

@aaronpk to be honest I just pasted your domain name into Feedly a while ago. It seemed to have picked up the json feed and labels it as RSS. I'm using NetNewsWire as a client on desktop and on the phone.

So it might be Feedly that's making a mess.

    Aaron Parecki
Weird, because the JSONFeed also has the photo in it. I dunno! You can find all my feeds here tho: https://aaronparecki.com/aaronpk

@aaronpk I'm not sure if you're aware: your RSS feed doesn't show the picture

    Aaron Parecki
It's an Atom feed, not RSS, but I see the photo there. What are you using that didn't find the photo?

@aaronpk what I like most about it is that it's a one time fee, not a monthly rent fee where you'd need to send it back once you want to stop paying for it.

Now *this* is a blue checkmark I would pay $8 for:

    UPDATE: I ordered one!

BUT, it will arrive in a week, so the meaning of the blue check will probably have changed 10 times by then, so who knows what the joke will really be about at that point

what's the equivalent of a subtweet, but in a blog post?
    Aaron Parecki
I'm pretty sure this was "vagueposting"? or maybe it was "vagueblogging"? It was definitely a thing before subtweeting was.

Rolled out another change I forgot to make with this morning’s Mastodon changes: your “about me” text from Micro.blog now shows up for Mastodon users too. (Mastodon will cache profiles so may take a while to update everywhere.)

    ✴️ Also on Micro.blog

    Aaron Parecki
fyi you can send out an Update activity to one's followers to trigger the remote instance to update the profile data. I don't think they'll update it in any reasonable amount of time otherwise.

Looking for @BikePortland feedback: Would you be interested in listening to audio of someone reading our daily stories? Would that be interesting to you?

Or having an mp3 embed atop each story as an option?

    Thanks for any feedback.
    Aaron Parecki
A short form podcast I could add to my Alexa morning flash briefing would be cool! (It just takes publishing a podcast feed) the challenging part is updating it daily

Ugh that's what I thought :( I don't have access to controlling redirects I believe.
    Aaron Parecki
It might be possible to copy and re-host the Bridgy Fed stuff under .well-known on your static site. Maybe @schnarfed might know?

Any chance anyone has a handy tutorial on how to make your static github-hosted blog be discoverable on mastodon?

I'm at https://sgo.to, and could be wonderful if I could have it discoverable as @me@sgo.to.

Anyone out there, before I dig into the ActivityPub specs?
    Aaron Parecki
It takes a little work to set up, but this service manages all the ActivityPub stuff as well as the HTTP Signatures required. You will need to be able to configure actual HTTP redirects on your host. https://fed.brid.gy

@jleedev yeah I guess I'm curious as to what the "processor" is here. the implementations I've seen have all been just throwing JSON together as you would normally or parsing it normally with hard-coded rules. I haven't seen an implementation where the context gets consulted, but I'm also not well versed in this technology.

@darius if this is annoying LMK and I will take you off these mentions

    Aaron Parecki
You're not wrong. Approximately 0% of people care about the LD in JSON-LD other than the creators of LD

@aaronpk collected some resources for getting mastodon-flavoured AP support running, either with an existing blog (e.g. bridgy fed) or with light-weight software (e.g. http://microblog.pub) https://aaronparecki.com/aaronpk

@aaronpk thanks! I thought about tagging you since I saw your name on the reviewers, but wasn’t sure if you still kept an eye on it. :)

If this gains even some lasting traction, people will want more and more changes to smooth the rough edges. Think it would be worth pointing folks to restart the community group once there’s a healthy list?

    Aaron Parecki
Yeah! I suspect there could be a scenario where the group gets restarted to make updates! I'm actually currently a co-chair of the Social Web community group, but it hasn't been very active lately. It'd be easy to re-start the conversation there for starters! https://www.w3.org/community/SocialCG/

@aaronpk in the Fitbit app for iOS (and presumably Android):

    • go to your picture in the top right corner
    • scroll way down to App Settings
    • click "Time Zone"

    Aaron Parecki
weirdly, I just tried the pull-down-refresh sync for a third time and it worked 🤷‍♂️

@postmodern @jerry @postmodern @jerry I just gave it a quick glance so there’s likely more beneath the surface, but it looks like the W3C group that maintains ActivityPub has had sporadic activity over the last year. If you have time and ideas, most standards groups are usually pretty excited to get more volunteers.

    Aaron Parecki
Officially, the W3C working group is shut down now. Unofficially, Mastodon itself has been driving most of the work lately and is the de-facto spec because everyone has to do whatever they build.

In practice this means you only need to convince Mastodon to make changes and cross your fingers that the few other implementations will follow.
