Wow. No matter how far down i scroll, I can’t find a Twitter space that interests me. It’s all sports and NFTs.
At feature launch there was far more variety… another form of carcinization?
    Aaron Parecki
I didn't know you could scroll thru twitter spaces, I only ever see them when they pop up at the top of my Twitter Home Screen 😅

This is what happens when a tech video made by a woman blows up on YouTube. 🙃

Latest toy, runs Linux, weighs 24kb and is the size of a TV with much less resolution. Writing bash scripts that make loud clicky noises is fun. Recommended.
    Aaron Parecki
I didn't realize you could get access to the Linux system on it... I've just been interacting with mine through their API. How'd you manage that?

I believe @aaronpk was looking at something similar and got one a while ago!
    Aaron Parecki
I did! I found some very excellent plans for a DIY one, but the cost for the parts for the DIY version ended up being 3-4x the cost of this one! Not to mention it would also be approximately a million additional hours of work. So I bought that and it's been fantastic.

I’m not sure what kind of HLS support is out there but you can start watching content that hasn’t downloaded fully (streaming?) as of now in most clients.

I wonder what would happen if you served an hls playlist of a livestream though. Would that work? Maybe 🤔
    Aaron Parecki
What podcast clients support video these days?

@aaronpk Have you tried something simple like this? https://www.js-tutorials.com/javascript-tutorial/pdfobject-embedded-pdf-viewer-using-html5/

    Aaron Parecki
That could work, but ideally I'd like something a littler nicer looking

@aaronpk I've been using sli.dev for my recent presentations, they have a html and pdf exporter. See i.e. here: https://iamjannik.me/rc3-foundations-compression/

    Aaron Parecki
This looks really nice! But it looks like you have to create the slides in that format, you can't import an existing PDF right?

Camera people! When at home, how do you store your gear? I usually have everything on shelves, but I’m nervous about earthquakes.

Feel free to leave links. 👍

@aaronpk I’m posting them on https://noti.st and using the API to PESOS part of the content to my own site.

    From there (Notist):
    https://talks.nicolas-hoizey.com

    To there (my home):
    https://nicolas-hoizey.com/talks/

I don’t PESOS slides yet, but it’s in the todo list.

    Aaron Parecki
yeah I have the list of all my presentations on my site already, I need to move the actual slides over now

Fellow conference speakers! I'm tired of posting my slides on Speakerdeck, I want to host them on my own website.

What awesome tools are there for doing this in a way that looks as close to Speakerdeck as possible? I'm thinking maybe an old-school JS slideshow viewer?
    Aaron Parecki
And to get this out of the way early, no I can't just switch to creating my slides in HTML. However I can rely on always being able to export them to PDF from whatever they're created in.

I am working on figuring out what is it about some episodes of the podcast why YouTube limits the ads and gives it a Yellow Dollar Sign.

There is no cursing and it’s a live stream and they always approve it later… but it’s been like every other episode…
    Aaron Parecki
This was happening to my livestreams nearly every time when I first started. I suspect it's some mistake in the speech-to-text recognition and they thought I was swearing or something. Every time I appealed it went away, and it hasn't happened again after a few months.

Does anyone know how to hack HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)? I'm trying to record my lectures (content I own) with an HDMI splitter from ATEM Mini Pro but it doesn't seem to split (presumably HDCP). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsxzZ7l6Vqc
Maybe I need an optical isolator?
    Aaron Parecki
Hi! It's been a while! Some HDMI splitters will strip HDCP but they can't advertise that, so try buying a few more cheap ones from questionable sources and you'll find one that works eventually!

I think it's an Apple licensing thing? But also there should be a different format that the Hyperdeck can read that you can export from Windows, not sure the details but check the other formats on the Hyperdeck.

Are there any OpenID providers left? I rather liked the whole "you can sign into things without everyone having to get API keys for everything".
    Aaron Parecki
Of course the other half of that question is are there any consumers left? StackExchange was one of the biggest left but they dropped support a couple years ago.

No, because I am registering them through DistroKid to make sure that I own the rights and have the ContentID in my registry instead of anyone else's, and I've connected my DK account to my YouTube Music Account.
    Aaron Parecki
Alright yep that just about covers it!

Five years ago I was writing a song sketch every day for 100 days in a row, and I've always been meaning to expand those into full length songs, but that's clearly not happening this year.

The real challenge has honestly been finding artist and also sourcing stock images that match the aesthetic and vibe I want to create in the space.

But between the music and art once they resources are commissioned the rest of it is wildly practical.

    Or will be when monetized.
    Aaron Parecki
Are you ever worried about artists reusing clips and triggering copyright claims? I had a copyright claim on a YouTube video because an artist published nearly identical songs to two stock music websites and ContentID found it.
