Hey Aaron - we'd definitely like to hear your concerns and talk about this further. Could you open a ticket so we can make sure you get a detailed answer? In the meantime, using the Cookie Preferences link on http://Linode.com will allow you to opt-out of ad trackers.

I’m not really a TikTok user, but I have discovered a few accounts that are worth following. Since I don’t want to install TikTok under any circumstances and I don’t want to visit the website manually, I built myself a TikTok JSON Feed generator. This tool consists of only a few lines of JavaScript and uses the library tiktok-scraper. Now I can follow TikTok-ers and see new posts in Miniflux. I hope that TikTok will not block my server.

    Aaron Parecki
Nice, never even thought to try this!

Hey @Linode why do you have so many ad trackers on your *login* domain? Of all places that's where you want to use as little 3rd party JS as possible!

Visiting login.linode.com loads trackers from Facebook, Doubleclick, Impact Radius, Oktopost, Linkedin, Google Ads, Bing
    Aaron Parecki
(btw I have some other security concerns with your login flow too, happy to follow up with this privately)

That’s surprising and concerning. Was considering it for a website (due to its attractive pricing)...
    Aaron Parecki
It's very strange. I've been using them for 10+ years and have been extremely happy with the service, so this is confusing to me.

@aaronpk My understanding is that's a legacy subdomain and they want people to log in via cloud.linode.com now?

    Aaron Parecki
cloud.linode.com uses login.linode.com for its login.

It is funny to me how Twitter just posts merrily about their "new API" like it's the hot new thing when they've systematically burned bridges with every app developer after ruining a flourishing API ecosystem a few years ago

    Aaron Parecki
    "funny"

Can't wait to see how much they're gonna charge for it when they actually launch it πŸ™„

If you're looking at new camera announcements and just reacting to the K count, you're not looking hard enough.
Honestly this kills me about camera discourse. The K-war isn't what actually matters. There is no "perfect resolution" and if you took "12K" from the BMD announcement
    Aaron Parecki
Totally. tbh it reminds me of the megapixel wars of digital cameras 20 years ago.

    Aaron Parecki
Argh I noticed that too! Apparently Adobe hasn't shipped an update for the ZV-1 raw format yet 😞

I thought it was a good thing to owe taxes instead of having some refunded or paying early? Essentially, avoiding giving the government a free loan or money early that could be invested.

Not a tax guy so I may have misunderstood.
    Aaron Parecki
technically the IRS doesn't want you to have to owe a chunk at tax time, which is why you're supposed to file quarterly. but also yes it's a "good" thing in that owing means you didn't loan your money at 0% to the IRS for the year.

Or just pay quarterly taxes if you prefer to do it that way.
    Aaron Parecki
or both, then enjoy a nice refund check next year instead!

The number of people who I know that are preparing for like end day scenarios keeps rising, lol. Like I got invited to learn more about ham radio systems (which I am kinda interested in) and some other stuff. The other stuff is what’s throwing me off.

I totally understand that many people can’t afford to buy every app they want, but my god WHAT is it with people complaining when an app costs money?! Do people think that developers write code for their own personal enjoyment? That software companies should somehow self fund? 🀯
    Aaron Parecki
for real! It's like people think because it's not a physical item it shouldn't cost anything.
