Funny how people worry about getting their hair cut while in lockdown... it literally didn’t occur to me that it might be a problem 😜

@aaronpk I read your article on Home studio and you make a lot of excellent recommendations, many I'm already doing. I am a musician and music teacher and I use slack for one-on-one lessons and YouTube live for large groups. Can you recommend a platform?
    Aaron Parecki
Thanks! A platform for what specifically? I've had a lot of luck with Zoom lately for the workshops I'm doing remotely.

is 12:30 pm too early to make a cocktail, or are all the rules irrelevant now? 🥃

It occurs to me that I don't yet have a fridge there, so I'm gonna be drinking warm beer or have to take a cooler with me.

*goes and orders a mini fridge on amazon...*

OK, let’s give this a try… every Thursday at 5pm Pacific VIRTUAL HAPPY HOUR — Grab your glass and join the party. If there's a ton of people I can make virtual rooms even. Let's see what happens! https://zoom.us/j/690190357
    Aaron Parecki
Perfect timing, I'll be wrapping up a workshop right around 5 and will join from my new studio! 🍻

@aaronpk You gotta tell us what you put in it! I'm in the UK, far from my usual cocktail supplies. Most of my cocktails these days consist of "pouring more scotch into the glass". It's not the worst thing.

    Aaron Parecki
It's actually a negroni. I stocked up on the ingredients a couple weeks ago!

There has been a lot written about the various applications that allow you to connect online. However, not much about improving the audio and visual quality. The only thing I wonder about is a portable green screen to mask the background? Do you have any thoughts on that?
    Aaron Parecki
    Definitely an upgrade! https://youtu.be/omE4wQlj0xQ

Tho Zoom's virtual backgrounds do an okay job without a greenscreen. Nothing I'd use on a recording but fine for a meeting.

So jealous! I didn't have time to finish the drywall on mine so i just hung a roll of paper and am choosing very careful camera angles 😂

I was talking to my gma on the phone about everything and joked it’s easy for John and me to social distance because we don’t have friends to begin with and she just didn’t know how to respond “Well... ummmm...” 🤣🤣🤣 Truth inspired sarcasm doesn’t translate well across gens.

Given all meetups have gone online, is it open for folks from other locations too? It would be a good chance for people not from the regular spots to join in.

    Aaron Parecki
Yes absolutely! Keep an eye on https://events.indieweb.org for dates and times. We renamed the SF and San Diego ones to just "west coast" because they were at the same time, and I suspect other areas will follow suit too

Anyone have advice for Bluetooth HD camera I can use for Zoom conferencing? I want to mount it on my TV for AirPlay video chats w/ kids, but I don't want to use camera in laptop or iPad (because it's too distracting for my 2yo and he grabs everything and anything)
    Aaron Parecki
There's also this kind of thing: https://www.solaborate.com/hello2 Basically an android device with a nice camera that plugs into a TV. Wouldn't do FaceTime, but it works with Zoom and stuff.

@MitchWagner The nice thing about Discourse is I'm pretty sure we can extend it to allow signing in with Micro.blog accounts. I'd want to test a few things before deciding, though.

    Aaron Parecki
That's definitely possible! Happy to help with that, it should be a pretty minor change to your IndieAuth provider code.
