I think the math is harder to justify for this trip. I usually plan a full travel day for a flight from Montreal to SF, but this is a 3-day trip by train. I really wanted to take this trip, though.
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah trains are super fun! I'd love to do a long one like that some time. Maybe next time I go to Montreal!

I think air travel replacement makes a lot more sense for a regional trip like that, too. For a 90-minute flight from PDX to YYV, you have to add 4 or more hours door-to-door for getting to and from the airport, security, check-in, etc.
    Aaron Parecki
eh I fly so much I show up at the airport a few minutes before boarding and it's fine with precheck and such. But it's true in the end it still takes about 4-6 hours total for the 1-hour flight.

no, i will always punctuate properly. spelling has to be accurate too. it’s only capitalization that is gone.
    Aaron Parecki
but wait there are plenty of valid cases for dropping punctuation for stylistic purposes too

I'm taking the trip from Montreal to San Francisco by train this weekend. It's been amazing; beautiful scenery, nice people, and I've had several stops for meals along the way. Best of all, I saved more than a tonne of CO2. #TrainsNotPlanes
    Aaron Parecki
Okay this may have convinced me to take the much shorter 8 hour train from Portland to Vancouver for the next IETF meeting

DUde, seriously, I can't get chat to work. I can't do live streams on YT if I can't chat.
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah there's no chat on the website as far as I can tell. I only see it in the twitter app. but also it disappears real quick so it's pretty frustrating compared to youtube streams!

I ordered some printer ink 4 days ago. Got delayed, then a strange message yesterday that the business was closed for the… holidays? No big deal, if it was important I could get it somewhere else, but it’s a rare look into how hard it must be to spoil us on overnight shipping.

It started with writing a blog post about OAuth authentication flow. But hiding the client secret was something I wanted to solve first. But you know what? I just found a way to work without a secret. And 100% secure! New blog posts and code will be online soon (=next week)
    Aaron Parecki
Not totally sure the context of this, but have you at least read the OAuth docs around this exact problem?

    https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6819#section-5.3.1

That's the reason OAuth uses a different flow for native apps and SPAs. I'll be curious to see your blog post!

    Aaron Parecki
so I looked up that product, and somehow found a bunch of "related" products and now I am deep in the hole of researching laser engravers which are apparently not that expensive and are also very small now.

What are folks using for free/low cost notifications for personal projects? I know https://indigenous.realize.be uses https://pushy.me and until now I've used https://pushbullet.com, but given https://www.jvt.me/mf2/2020/01/yelaf/ I may need to replace it with something more substantial

    Aaron Parecki
I use https://www.prowlapp.com and https://pushover.net and haven't run in to any limits yet.

    Aaron Parecki
what, you mean you don't have a Twitter list of OAuth people?

All I want for Christmas is to see only the tweets from people I follow, and nothing more
    Aaron Parecki
For real! The app is basically unusable.

No joke, I do this by following twitter lists and hashtags instead.

Both. Most time I’ve ever put into a non-client video. Pretty ridiculous, but it was fun
    Aaron Parecki
    It does look fun!

Oh that reminded me -- the way that you connect the X2 to YouTube with that temporary code -- building and teaching software developers that kind of thing is literally my actual job!

Ok I just watched it, and wow great job πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

That was a *lot* of videos in videos in videos, must have required either a ton of setup time or a ton of post-production, or both!

I got "XXXXXX is your Twitter login code. [...]", which sounds pretty reasonable.

But maybe their phone verification message is just wrong. ^_^
    Aaron Parecki
ok I was curious so I just tried the SMS verification and got "Your Twitter confirmation code is XXXXXX"

I tried a 2fa challenge and got "XXXXXX is your Twitter login code. [...]"

So yeah I can't think of another way to trigger that unless someone got past the password prompt.

Just down to SF for a day. I'm going to do a remote workshop for them instead, probably using the ATEM Mini actually!

Hmmmmmm. If I get a spurious Twitter 2fa code, that means they already had my password, right?

When I tried in an anonymous window just now, putting in a wrong password doesn't get me to the 2fa.
    Aaron Parecki
Could also be someone trying to add your phone number to another Twitter account and it's a verification message. I can't remember if their 2fa messages and phone number verification message text are the same.

    Aaron Parecki
oh yeah! I saw it came out and it was on my queue to watch on the plane tonight, but then I had to cancel that trip. I am looking forward to watching it very soon tho! 😊

Well spotted, and yes. This changes a lot of things for me, actually. I may very well rip out the entire live broadcast studio.
    Aaron Parecki
😱 wow that's a change! Definitely looking forward to a behind the scenes of the new workflow if so!
