Friendly competition: Has anyone seen a higher "cleaning fee" than this? 😂

@Airbnb has become basically unusable for me because the user set and company set fees end up doubling the nightly price
    Aaron Parecki
I've noticed if the listing is managed by a management company the cleaning fee is often higher than usual. The nightly fee is split with the property owner, but the cleaning fee is kept by the manager. Upping the cleaning fee means they can keep more.

The "car insurance" spammers have changed up their tactics! Now they tried to tell me they're an insurance company based in Los Angeles. When I pressed them and asked, "So I'm not allowed to know what company I'm talking to?" they finally hung up.

    Aaron Parecki
I get those calls too but I just hang up as soon as the robot says "car insurance" because I don't own a car 😂

Friends, is there a service that my dad can use to forward his landline number to his cell, permanently?
    Aaron Parecki
Both my parents ported their land line numbers to their cell phones and dropped their cell numbers.

Allow video format on media endpoint

Hi, i don’t know if it’s already possible, may be it’s my media endpoint (php) who has a problem. When i try to file_put_contents('/tmp/media_debug.log', print_r($_FILES, true), FILE_APPEND); and upload a mp4 (3Mo) there is no output in my media_debug.log but with the images there is one as expected.

I took a look on the Quill’s code and it looks like he handle only images files i didn’t find anything for .mp4, .webm, .mov or .ogg files.

    Thank you

Ps: send with Quill obviously :D

    #Quill #micropub #media #endpoint #webm #mp4 #ogg #mov #video #upload
    Aaron Parecki
Quill doesn't currently handle video files at all. That said, there could also be an issue with your server rejecting the POST request because it is too big. Check your PHP settings to see how big the max file upload size is. Even still, I doubt it would work still because Quill's image handling is really meant just for photos right now.

Sorry to be thickheaded but how/why does adding Wyze Sense make it available in Node-RED. As near as I can tell, Node-RED doesn’t have any Wyze Sense nodes...?
    Aaron Parecki
Correct. Node-Red has a Home Assistant integration, and then anything you can make appear in Home Assistant will also be available in Node-Red

    Dear @AmericanAir,

After arriving back to LA from Indonesia, I was $275 EQDs under (yet 25K miles over) from maintaining status. You asked me to pay $1875 (?!) to keep status, so instead I booked a $400 rt ticket to Mexico for 24 hrs. Here’s how my fucking night went...
    Aaron Parecki
I've gotten several of those @AmericanAir "offer" emails and they are always just so ridiculously high. I kept ignoring them and finally got one last one which was just "here let us give you status for free for 3 months plzzz"

Do you need to unblock it if you want to add another “appliance” or teach it additional IR commands?
    Aaron Parecki
Nope you can talk to it on your local network just fine. It doesn't need internet access to work!

Great article, Aaron! How do you block your Broadlink RM Mini’s internet access? Also, are you able to do Node-RED automations based on triggers from Wyze Sense devices?
    Aaron Parecki
Thanks! I blocked it in my home router. And yes the Wyze sensors have been great and I can create automations in node-red from them!

@aaronpk Oh cool! Yeah, tbh my main issue with most events solutions out there is that their federation models seem really weird to me. It was important for me to make an event (lower case) into an Actor that people can follow, and then it can send out Events. Other implementations take the AS2 vocab spec too literally and make human users their Actors, and you follow a human and they emit Events that they "own" over time

    Aaron Parecki
I agree with you on that! I think this is also a similar issue I've seen on how we've been doing "indie events", where an individual person posts an event on their own website. (We have at least 6 years of examples of this at this point.) But I've always thought of events as being their own thing even if they're hosted by a specific person. So this is my attempt at flipping that around and making events a first-class entity.

I've been building a Facebook Events style event organizing system for the Fediverse. It's based on the simple, open source, privacy-respecting event organizing tool https://gath.io

The attached video is a work-in-progress preview and shows compatibility with Mastodon. My hope is to get it working with lots of software, including stuff like Friendica that supports events and calendars.

This is very cool! Nice overloading of polls for RSVP buttons!

I've been working on events too, and just launched https://events.indieweb.org last week! It federates via Webmention, including adding photos, comments and blog posts via Webmention replies. I've been thinking about whether and how to add ActivityPub to it and this is giving me some ideas now!

A solid 4 of the 30 various tech boxes I've kept for 20 years were useful in our move. Hoarder, my ass!
    Aaron Parecki
How many of those boxes were full of IDE/SATA cables? I finally got rid of mine last year.

With a use of cross-platform authenticators this should not be much of a problem. You use a YubiKey to log into your site and in the admin panel there would be a button that enrolls your platform authenticator too. I think I saw something like this in the spec’s GitHub issues, can’t remember where exactly.

    Aaron Parecki
I guess I haven't thought through how to handle the case if you have *only* a yubikey as the only authentication first and then you want to log in on a device that doesn't support a yubikey. You'd need to somehow use the first device to allow the second device to log in, and then you can enroll the second device's authenticator after.
