Oops this has been happening lately! My Fitbit syncs in the middle of the night when my cat wakes me up for food and then my website thinks it's a complete record. I need to fix my import to check for updated records on Fitbit!

Is there any kind of JS+PHP "standard" for doing auth without ever sending any kind of replayable credential to the server? Something like a SCRAM conversation? Been thinking about ways of never allowing servers to see a plaintext password, and thus be unable to be compromised.
    Aaron Parecki
This sounds like exactly what WebAuthn is for, and even better, it's already implemented in browsers and available as a JS API!

A little note that a lot of your mapping posts seem to show up like this in Monocle. Nonetheless, Iโ€™m sure youโ€™re having fun!

    Aaron Parecki
Is there supposed to be an image there? Anyway I've noticed that too. It's a problem with the map provider that Monocle uses. I'm going to have to switch it out for a different one clearly!

Iโ€™m going to make a graph of OAuth RFCs. It wonโ€™t be pretty.
    Aaron Parecki
Please do, I will link to it from https://oauth.net

I wanted to make a graphical version but ran out of time before I published this https://www.oauth.com/oauth2-servers/map-oauth-2-0-specs/

@aaronpk The first one I think is alright as long as you don't talk about "work stuff."

    @aaronpk I think 1 and 3 are okay, 2 is questionable.

    Aaron Parecki
Really? Cause I explicitly ordered those based on my own ideas of least to most appropriate

I am taking mostly a full rest day today and it feels good.

    Aaron Parecki
Congrats. I am slowly learning that this is important, despite my natural tendencies to not want to do this.

Just noticed this different avatars thing on @aaronpk's website in relation to the content. Such a subtle detail, smart and simple. Well done, Aaron. I hope it's okay for you that I'll do something with this inspiration ;)

This is literally whining on the yacht, but this First Class seat in an old Virgin plane has no foot storage, no cupholders, and the seat in front of me is too far away to reach stuff I put in the pocket without unbuckling my seatbelt. ๐Ÿ˜ž Help me @AlaskaAir you're my only hope.

oh but there is an Ethernet jack at the seat so ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Hi, I'm Aaron Parecki, Director of Identity Standards at Okta, and co-founder of IndieWebCamp. I maintain oauth.net, write and consult about OAuth, and participate in the OAuth Working Group at the IETF. I also help people learn about video production and livestreaming. (detailed bio)

I've been tracking my location since 2008 and I wrote 100 songs in 100 days. I've spoken at conferences around the world about owning your data, OAuth, quantified self, and explained why R is a vowel. Read more.
