I want to like the #IndieWeb movement, but just like the #ActivityPub crowd, they're obsessed with the push model. It rubs me the wrong way.
    Aaron Parecki
I'm not sure what you mean... the vast majority of interactions happen because of polling web pages rather than websub, and even webmentions -- while the notification itself is a push -- require fetching the site to get the actual data.

How are folks organizing their favorite places/stores/restaurants/etc. on iOS? I was using third-party apps, but I switched to Maps favorites in their early days, and they were once blown away completely, so I bailed on that. Now I use Notes, but I don’t like it. Other ideas?

    Aaron Parecki
I still use lists on Foursquare for this

#72 Suggest ending trip if still active while in one location

    Aaron Parecki
A notification is a good compromise here. Previously I was thinking about automatically ending a trip in this case, but I'm always worried about false positives, so a push notification suggestion with an easy to tap "confirm" would be great.

Any microbloggers planning to come to Swift By Northwest Dev Conference in Portland, October 18-20? @danielpunkass and @brentsimmons are speaking. I’d like to organize a little Micro Meetup for one of the breakfasts or lunches, if there is interest.

    Aaron Parecki
aww, sorry to miss this! I'm going to be in Germany for an IndieWebCamp that weekend!

Looking for 'protip' methods on hyper-accurate location tracking within a small area–like a single open room. What's out there for this?
    Aaron Parecki
What type of accuracy do you need? Bluetooth beacons can tell you when someone is in the immediate vicinity. If you need positioning at arbitrary locations that's a different story. I used a Wi-Fi system once, no software required in the phone but requires hardware in corners.

add the ability to search within a channel timeline

    Aaron Parecki
I have also wanted to do this recently! Time to start documenting and brainstorming some search APIs!

@yorrike I bought an X last year, upgrading from a 6s, purely because I hate the home button on iPhones. It was a ridiculously privileged purchase, and I wasn't happy about giving Apple the money, but I loved the switch away from the physical button.

    Aaron Parecki
Whoa, I'm still on a 6s and I've been super hesitant to give up my physical button. I'm super torn about upgrading this year. I'm not *excited* about the new iPhone, and I feel like spending $1149 on something I'm not super excited about is not a good plan

This is to let you know that Petula Clark (who put out ‘Downtown’ in 1964) is still putting out albums, and the song ‘Cut Copy Me’ from her 2013 album ‘Lost in You’ is great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjsTk8fmC4s (It sort of sounds like AIR?) (The title track is also great.)

@aaronpk I was thinking about that today too. There's not currently a section that collects the posts together, but there should be.

    Maybe a tagmoji?

Looking forward to the Apple event tomorrow. No predictions, but @danielpunkass and I will record a new Core Intuition right after the event. Mention “iPhone X” (or XS or XC!) in a blog post tomorrow to unlock the Micro.blog special event pin.

    Aaron Parecki
ahhhh I'm gonna be on a plane during the announcement! Will I be able to click on the 📱 or 🍎 emoji when I land to see what everyone is saying about it??

News Explorer has thoroughly convinced me that RSS reader sync can — maybe should — be done client-side using storage you're already paying for, but everybody's building clients for dedicated, costly RSS services.

    Aaron Parecki
This is exactly why we're taking the alternate approach with Microsub, where your subscriptions and storage are something you own, and clients are just thin interfaces on top.

@aaronpk Hey can we meet up at XOXO? I've been a fan of your work for awhile and your new Overland-iOS project is super interesting to me. My friend @bgreenlee and I are here, we've built a very simple passive tracker using same APIs: https://wanderin.gs/docs/

Someone at the booth I was working at over the weekend used that with her iPad, and it looked pretty handy. It was either that or let a thousand people access her email.
    Aaron Parecki
Right! I've been signing in to an alternate iCloud account on my shared devices so that people can't turn on iMessage and start getting my messages, but this is a lot better!

@JohnPhilpin @rnv @kitt The API still doesn't allow images in replies. It started as a technical limitation, but whenever I look to expand it, I wonder if we're better off with simple replies. Images can be fun, but too many memes can also sidetrack or clutter a conversation. I feel like postponing that feature is best. (I could be wrong.)

    Aaron Parecki
This is the kind of thing I'm glad you're willing to push back on instead of blindly copying Twitter

Is it stupid to want some sort of standard video protocol so they could all play together?
    Aaron Parecki
I mean we already have that for audio, so why not also video?

Can you imagine how ridiculous it would be if you could only call other people if they used the same cell carrier as you?

i'm sure someone's said it, but as much as i like the vibe and support the vision, the practical impact of a lot of indieweb tech is kinda scant - like there are no real microschema aggregators or anything
    Aaron Parecki
