The server is an interesting thing. Considering setting it up on a vultr VPS.
This seems to beat Moves by miles btw!

So long as it's optional, that's a great addition!

You have to run a server to catch the data rn, so iCloud drive would be easier. Doesn't tick the "data never leaves the device" box though.

Why are you even making epub? is that what kindle uses?

@tylergillies All the eBook readers except kindle use it, and Amazon provides a tool to convert from ePub to their format

@isaac32767 There's plenty of structure in these HTML files, that's how the ToC is generated.

In other words, you're using a legacy workflow. Moving on from it may not be practical, but you should at least consider it.

There are a lot of off-the-shelf workflows for converting XML to any user doc format you could name. So if you *start* in XML ... 2/2

@isaac32767 I'm starting in HTML which is what Prince uses to generate the print PDF. That part works great.

Instead of jumping through hoops to generate the XML, consider authoring in XML in the first place.

@isaac32767 I'm not going to maintain individual XML files for the ncx/opf files. Those need to be generated automatically from my content.

Curious to know what format your source files are in.

PHP for conditional rendering of content for the epub vs print editions, e.g. "on page X" vs hyperlink, and to get images to flow properly

You're writing XML without a validating editor? I hope your insurance has good mental health coverage.

by "hand", I mean with some PHP scripts. e.g. the TOC is generated by parsing my source files, etc.

Also, the two leading xml editor both run on the JRE. So how did you get that Epub file in the first place?

@isaac32767 Generator? I'm creating it by hand. It's quite a mess of various XML formats and namespaces with no meaningful significance

So our Sonos locked us out this morning until we let it update its firmware. This is a dark UI pattern which strongly suggests they are holding the system hostage until I agree to let them remove features or add anti-features like sharing what we listen to or surveiling our home network. Anybody know of an alternative, free/open source Sonos firmware?

ugh I hate when apps and devices do this. There should always be a "later" option.
