As Web 3.0 as a term has been utterly ruined by cryptobros, I propose the next version of the web will be Web 95.

Short term: PDX 4plex legalization will have little effect (200-300 additional homes per year in a city with 300,000)

Medium term: not much more (1%-2% more homes in 2040)

Long term: big. As old 1plexes reach the end of their lives, most get replaced by 4plexes not huge 1plexes

Adopting the concept, yes. Better would have been for them to use Webmentions, which are what Pingback should be; that is, not using XML-RPC, I think -- Pingback was designed when that was the cool thing, which it no longer is :) https://www.kryogenix.org/days/2014/11/29/enabling-webmentions/ has more on that!

To independent-minded voters: Don’t just listen to what one person says, that’s not very independent-minded.

Vote for the party that will preserve democracy and isn’t steeped in election denialism and the desire to control our bodily autonomy. Vote for a Democratic Congress.

Twitter's verification: Either jump through all these hoops and cross all your fingers, or wait for a man-child to buy the entire company and spend $8 on something that will eventually lose all meaning.

Mastodon verification: Add your website to your profile and then your profile on your website as a regular HTML anchor link with `rel="me"` and you're done.

I wound up meeting with a Director who came in huffing and puffing.

The Director said “We should know when users leave their house, their commute to work, and everywhere they go throughout the day. Anything less is useless. We get a lot more than that from other tech companies.”

To set the stage, this was the 2015-2016 era. @dickc was just ousted, though he was wonderful and made us feel like family. @jack came in as part-time CEO. Twitter had been near death for a while and was desperately trying to find a buyer. Facebook and Google both refused.

When it came time to reckon with social media’s failings, nobody ran to the “web3” platforms. Nobody asked “can I get paid per message”? Nobody asked about the blockchain. The community of people who’ve been quietly doing this work for years (decades!) ended up being the ones who welcomed everyone over, as always.
