whenever some tech person says “the metaverse” please remember that the term was coined by Neal Stephenson in 1992 to describe an exploitative, corporatized, hierarchical space that ultimately kinda sucks https://www.newyorker.com/culture/infinite-scroll/facebook-wants-us-to-live-in-the-metaverse

There is a really bad privacy bug in the new “official” #mastodon #ios app. If you reply to a dm it defaults to totally public. This is honestly a really awful bug that has already resulted in mistakingly posting publicly something I meant to be private.

    The end of the month:
Wow why did I wait until the end of the month to do all of my sponsored videos, I'll be more responsible next month to spread it out and not crunch myself.

    Next month:
Psh I've got basically an eternity until the month is over, no need to rush.

To those upset about some design decisions in the iOS app: Nobody’s forcing you to use the iOS app. I’m fully aware that it takes a different turn from all other existing apps in some aspects, and that’s the point. If it makes the fediverse larger by retaining more new users, then I’ve succeeded and everyone benefits. If not, nobody except me loses.

Frankly there is no unbiased view point on anything that's not strictly reading a spec sheet.

Even what spec sheet you are reading is based on your own interest or thoughts of gain so again bias is everywhere.

Also some clarification if you've only started following me recently

I'm not a reviewer, I don't overly care about benchmarks, and I'm not all that interested in giving you an unbiased view of anything.

I make videos about things I'm interested in and its 100% opinionated.

I really like PRs from bots updating dependencies and resolving vulnerabilities. Not because they do those things. But because when I see years worth of those PRs still open I know to steer away from that project.

I'm so thankful right now I get to focus on building something that's meaningful. I know down the road I'll look back at this time where I fill my day with ActivityPub, IndieAuth and building tools to empower individuals instead of corporations. I don't take it for granted, and I know I won't have the luxury to do this forever. Thank you to everyone who has helped me work on Owncast today.
