Streaming video is incredibly stupid and will put huge, unnecessary strains on our ISPs.

Imagine if all the households simply downloaded copies of what they wanted to watch. At a fixed bandwidth. And shared those copies with their nearby friends.

We solved this problem ~1996.

“I’m just going to do a quick video” said every YouTuber ever.

“Well that was quick” said no YouTuber ever.

It’s kind of quaint how all the folks who care about privacy think that anyone cares whether Zoom is encrypted. All these folks also use Facebook, remember?

live talks have benefits… in person. there's energy. you can see the crowd and adjust.

the only benefit of a fully live talk online is interrupting yourself to answer a question, and i think that's a bad practice.

and recorded & edited talks work the same, every time.

do not tell me "wow amy, you just reinvented Second Life."

the best online event experience would be one that recognizes and respects that we're sitting at our desk using computers!!
