I just posted Micro.blog “Responses” and am wondering what your thoughts are? We have talked a lot about Favorites, Likes, and so forth. cc: @manton @macgenie
(It’s a first draft)
The fact that the federated timeline is essentially useless on single-user instances mean if you decide to run Mastodon in the most decentralised method possible, you miss out on a core feature of the software.
This is not really a new observation, I have mentioned before that joining the fediverse for the first time with a single user instance is playing on hard mode. You are missing the bootstrap that is the federated timeline.
I have a sort of Mastodon Stockholm Syndrome where this starts to feel normal:
1. See a post (toot) in my app timeline, want to view all replies.
2. Open post.
3. Click "View in Browser" to see post on its home server, which includes all replies.
4. See a reply I want to favorite. Copy link to that reply.
5. Paste URL into search box on my home instance. This adds the post to my home instances database.
6. Fave reply.
My kingdom for restaurant websites which have a text-only one page version of the menu without so much javascript that google translate can't even parse it and nothing is copypastable. https://rhiaro.co.uk/2018/08/websites
