The end goal is not for every individual blogger and website owner to add HEAD tags to their websites, it’s that the tools that allow people to use the websites support adding the HEAD tags automatically. Like micro.blog. If you add Twitter/GitHub in the settings, it automatically applies rel=“me” to the links. As a user you don’t have to understand the technical aspect. That is the end goal, platform/software owners understand the tech stuff and users use the platforms/softwares

Someone was recently telling me they were a "Code Ninja". I don't want to work with a Ninja, they leave a bloody mess. I want to work with a "Code Janitor". Comes in the middle of the night, cleans things up, you only know they were there because everything is organized and tidy.

wow, quite a nuanced analysis. thanks for doing this research and writing it up! i’ve linked to this from the GDPR section of Bridgy’s docs.

from a strictly legal GDRP compliance perspective, we (including a lawyer) still tentatively concluded that Bridgy may be exempt from much or all of the GDPR because it’s non-commercial, it only handles fully public data, and that data is generally only sent to personal web sites. details..

the ethics, of course, are an entirely separate question. i myself haven’t addressed them at all yet, but you have thoughtfully and deeply here. thank you for your perspective!

I made a VGP (very good program) that makes it so it looks like I’m typing on slack whenever anyone else is typing, and stops when they stop.

Everyone loves it so far and doesn’t find it annoying at all!

Hi, I'm Aaron Parecki, Director of Identity Standards at Okta, and co-founder of IndieWebCamp. I maintain oauth.net, write and consult about OAuth, and participate in the OAuth Working Group at the IETF. I also help people learn about video production and livestreaming. (detailed bio)

I've been tracking my location since 2008 and I wrote 100 songs in 100 days. I've spoken at conferences around the world about owning your data, OAuth, quantified self, and explained why R is a vowel. Read more.
