One interesting thing to explore with having my own domain on here is being able to separate create utility accounts strongly associated with my name. @blog, as a very simple initial example.

    Aaron Parecki
Ages ago I built a social network that worked like that! You could create categories under your account and people could follow all or some of them. I called them "channels" then.

@aaronpk probably knows some folks there rather than a generic news feed

oof yeah that's tough, a side effect of the low tech activation key mechanism they use. I can reach out to my contacts to help if you'd like tho.

The web needs to take itself less seriously. It's barely out of its twenties and suddenly it's all like "I can't make fansites for hippos anymore, I have businesses to run".

A cautionary tale about not taking any of the infrastructure we enjoy for granted.
I might not always agree with everything coming out of the W3C, but its value for the open web is undeniable. Hoping for a resolution, for the web itself and all people involved!🤞

I’ve long since given in to the luxury of allowing a specialist to fix my bike tires. The walk-up window at @SellwoodCycle has 100% spoiled me…
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah this may be the answer 😬 Until about last year I always went to a bike shop if I had a flat. Barely ever had flats. Replaced my tubes three times this year and got a flat again shortly after each time. I am clearly not cut out to be a bike mechanic.

So far today is going great. I tried to fix my bike's flat tire and it went flat again an hour later. And now my external SSDs aren't mounting which is making it very hard to do work.

Can I call in a "technical difficulties day"? It's like a sick day but for my stuff.
    Aaron Parecki
The nice part of replacing my tube twice in one day means I'm getting faster at disassembling and reassembling the whole rear wheel on the Brompton. Took only 18 minutes the second time!

Maybe I should schedule monthly sessions to keep practicing.

@aaronpk When I get back-to-back flats like what you reported, I spend like, 15 minutes thoroughly inspecting the tire for embedded metal/glass/thorns. Sometimes they can hide incredibly well and don’t poke their pokey bits out until the tire is inflated. So, lots of flexing and feeling around the inside of the tire.

    Aaron Parecki
I will do that. Last time the flat was on the seam of the tube. This time it was on the side. Could be a pinch flat, since it had been a couple weeks since I last pumped up my tires.

@aaronpk I worked at bike shops for a dozen years and rarely ever got flats. I got a better paying job in tech and my flats-in-a-year rate has gone up, no joke, at least 5x. I’ve angered the bike gods.

    Aaron Parecki
lol! This is my third flat this year too, after having previously had only like one flat on this bike since I got it in 2017. I don't know what I'm doing wrong at this point!

I hear that. I had *finally* gotten my Global Entry in 2020, and had a trip to Singapore ready to roll...
Alas, it was not meant to be.
But one thing I discovered is just how much time was wasted in travel - and it definitely changed how I operated.
    Aaron Parecki
absolutely! The few trips I've done this year have really made that very clear to me, especially contrasting with the previous year of a packed schedule of virtual events.
