#Indieweb commies want you to think personal websites are 'hip', but there's no # money # gain # profit in being a human person (online). That's why I'm advocating for 💰Impersonal Websites 💰, to promote more business-business business profit (online!).

(Sometimes you buy a whole new domain just so you can shitpost about it…)

@aaronpk I have heard of that thing you were referring to in your original post. I forget where. Now I know why I didn't try it. I don't think you were the only one to flag it for one reason or another.

    Aaron Parecki
Yeah I'm definitely not the only one, I've been hearing it pop up in my circles for a few days, nearly exclusively because of various red flags!

@aaronpk I will keep a closer eye on that in the future. I have lots of photos, so this could be rather interesting.

    Aaron Parecki
Generally I trust apps and will give them access to my full camera roll, but not when they are VC-backed startups with no established business model trying to ride a press wave

Looks like their security might not be as well thought as it might be, see also @rmondello’s thread about their u/p implementation

It's really frustrating that apps get these basic things so wrong. If these are the mistakes they're making that are this visible, what other much less visible mistakes are they also making?? It's not a good sign.

@aaronpk That's interesting... I have always picked all whenever that prompt shows up fearing that if not, then the application won't work, or will work, but severely limited functionality.

    Aaron Parecki
You can always change your mind by going into the settings for the app later! But generally apps should only be doing things with your photos when you select them, so it'd be super weird if the app functionality was limited by choosing the other option!

Once you give it access to all photos, there's nothing stopping it from combing through your camera roll and doing whatever it wants, like scanning your photos for location data, uploading hashes of the images for later matching, or probably worse things I can't think of.
    Aaron Parecki
Also can we maybe *not* just hop from one silo to another that could just as easily be purchased and dismantled?

We've got 20 years of documentation of this, and I'm just tired of it. https://indieweb.org/site-deaths

wow, Hive Social won't let you add any photos unless you grant it access to *all* your photos. Normally on iOS you can choose to give an app access to only select photos, but it recognizes this and prevents you from doing anything. Super sketchy, will not be using this.

Thanks! The question is, will it edit 360° footage produced by other hardware? I have the Ricoh Theta X, and the device is really good. It’s just the stupid video editing software that past a certain length exports videos with black frames
    Aaron Parecki
ooh, I don't know if it can import footage from other cameras!

I'm pretty sure Davinci Resolve (free) can edit any 360 footage tho!

Got awesome underwater 360° footage, but the @RicohTweets software (theta+) is buggy and won’t let me export - @aaronpk @timcappalli what do you use?
    Aaron Parecki
I have the Insta360 X2, it's so much fun! The iPhone app is decent, and there's a MacOS app if you want to do more detailed editing too.

The X3 came out recently, I like the larger screen but not planning to upgrade myself https://www.insta360.com/product/insta360-x3

5 frustrations only live streamers will fully understand...

    1. Losing internet while live streaming
    2. Adult/Sex spam bots
    3. Purchasing a new piece of gear only to find out the updated version is coming out in a couple weeks
    4. A closet full of product boxes
    5. Lighting

All those people posting takes of “all the people saying twitter will crash and die are wrong, it works fine!” Are you all using the same app I am, because I am seeing the “an error occurred. Try again?” about 50% of the time now and increasing

Hey, @aaronpk Will you ever update your LiveChat overlay or open it up to allow CSS updates?
    Aaron Parecki
Update it to do what? I've pushed out a few updates for new features.

It's also open source if you want to totally customize it. I'm open to feature suggestions too, feel free to add an issue on the GitHub!
