To those upset about some design decisions in the iOS app: Nobodyโ€™s forcing you to use the iOS app. Iโ€™m fully aware that it takes a different turn from all other existing apps in some aspects, and thatโ€™s the point. If it makes the fediverse larger by retaining more new users, then Iโ€™ve succeeded and everyone benefits. If not, nobody except me loses.

Frankly there is no unbiased view point on anything that's not strictly reading a spec sheet.

Even what spec sheet you are reading is based on your own interest or thoughts of gain so again bias is everywhere.

Also some clarification if you've only started following me recently

I'm not a reviewer, I don't overly care about benchmarks, and I'm not all that interested in giving you an unbiased view of anything.

I make videos about things I'm interested in and its 100% opinionated.

I really like PRs from bots updating dependencies and resolving vulnerabilities. Not because they do those things. But because when I see years worth of those PRs still open I know to steer away from that project.

@aaronpk may I ask you a few questions about this product? Background - I've used OBS for long timeframe livestreaming with some issues in the past, but I've noticed that after a few hours of livestreaming, it starts to glitch out because of memory issues. It's worse with ffmpeg - livestreaming bitrate drops drastically as time goes on. I assume since this product is hardware based, it wouldn't have those issues?

Also, what does this mean? "Plus the built in USB connections work like a webcam, so you can connect a computer and use any streaming software, or even Skype or Zoom." Does it mean that you can stream to Skype or Zoom, or from?

I understand that this and OBS are not directly comparable. Just wanted to know your thoughts on these questions.

    Aaron Parecki
Yep any time they say "work like a webcam" it means you can bring the video feed from these into Zoom or OBS like you'd plug in an actual USB webcam.

The ATEM Mini Pro and Extreme can do the encoding and streaming directly to YouTube and other platforms, which would avoid doing that encoding in your computer with OBS which is causing the issues you're seeing. Generally I prefer offloading that to external devices for that reason. But yes like you noticed, they can stream to only one place, so you have to use things like Restream or a raspberry pi if you want to push to multiple platforms.
