Managed to keep the house to "just" 85°F today, but the next two days are gonna be interesting with the warm nights and no AC.
    Aaron Parecki
oh gosh! even with AC we're at 79 here, cause it's one of the indoor floor AC units which are not the best. what I'm really worried about is the power going out though.

Looks like the temperature reached the peak today at 5pm, my sensor outside in the shade recorded 104.7°F (40°C). So far the AC is holding up, but I'm a bit worried that the *low* tonight is expected to be 80°!

Putting the Pacific Northwest heatwave in perspective—

Portland, Oregon will be hotter than about 99.8% of Earth as it smashes its all-time temp record on Sunday 🔥

The only places (⚫) expected to be hotter: Africa's Sahara Desert, Persian Gulf, California's deserts 🤯

It’s 101 degrees Fahrenheit here at the office and PDX has joined in the triple digit temperature club as it is 100 degrees Fahrenheit at the ASOS. #orwx #wawx #pdxtst #HEATWAVE

After today's IndieWebCamp popup session, I built a way to create unlisted posts on my site that require a secret key in the URL in order to view.

Since all my URLs are more or less sequential, I needed a way to be able to add something to the URL that is unguessable. It was a relatively easy thing to add!

Try viewing this post without the secret string at the end to see the feature in action: https://aaronparecki.com/2021/06/26/9/MXJEJKW

I want to share how the scammers almost got into my bank account, because I think as tech savvy people, sometimes we forget we are still vulnerable, and it's always good to have a reminder of what to watch out for.

I'd usually call it just a "website". Static sites I'd call "static site", and most SPAs I'd call "shitty garbage" 😅

Haha I like the idea but I’d need a lot more of them :-) No, replacing all the cameras I use for my main studio setup. No longer a mix; consistent look, all network controllable, all have synchro scan shutter angle… it’s dreamy.

@aaronpk the portable air conditioners are great. Probably sold out for months.

I have one for the apartment, but I don't want something taking up that much floor space in the studio and I also don't want that noise. Eventually I'll probably install a mini split as a permanent solution, but in the mean time I'm gonna hack up a cold air pipe tomorrow and see how it goes.
