I wish I could pop out chats in #Slack. I want all my active chats visible at once. It's really easy to lose a conversation when I have several going at once, or I'm waiting for a reply that might not happen for hours.

I wrote a thread discussing the mathematics of accurately assessing risk. But I deleted it. Don't have the fight in me.

We really need to fix the education system in the US and require Probability and Statistics instead of Calculus.
    Aaron Parecki
Seriously! I took (and later taught) Probability and Statistics in college and I was like omg why did nobody ever tell me about this earlier!

Oh that's funny... I was going to drop a link to his at-home streaming setup, noticing that he uses a Lumix. I gather it has the "will provide a clean HDMI output forever without overheating" feature. That's my back-up option right now... looking at the Nikon Z50 first.
    Aaron Parecki
yeah I run it off the "dummy battery" connected to USB power. I've run this thing for hours at a time, no issues at all.

The Lumix G7 was recommended by my coworker @aaronpk who knows waaaay more about cameras than I do. I’m sure there are better options available, but probably more expensive. I hear lots of folks are interested in the new Sony ZV-1 that’s now available for preorder.
    Aaron Parecki
also you get diminishing returns on camera bodies, I'd spend more on a nice lens before getting a fancier camera than the G7 if you're just getting started.

The Lumix G7 is a fantastic camera for streaming. There's definitely "better" cameras, but it's one of the most affordable, and especially if you want more than one camera angle, you can actually do that with the G7 whereas it's a bit harder to justify 2x $1200 cameras!

@aaronpk It sounds like it only affected phone calls at least? Data on AT&T and Verizon I think were fine. All the more reason to use other apps for communication, and treat it as a dumb internet pipe.

Well, as dumb as it can, with all of the video stuff not being metered depending on which one you have.

    Aaron Parecki
Yeah phone calls and SMS. Ironically I was trying to make a phone call at the exact moment it was down. Switched to using google hangouts to call via WiFi and it was fine.

It says so much about our government that a SCOTUS decision protecting basic equality is a celebratory exception rather than the anticipated rule.
