I wanted a fully fresh start without restoring from a backup for so long.

Let’s see if it is everything I dreamed of.

    Zoom acquired Keybase today.

Keybase helped me to identify a trend in the software industry: using a pretty UI to cover up the disruption of an open ecosystem with a closed, centralized replacement. Keybase seemed cool on the face of it - making encryption easier is a laudible goal, and PGP certainly could use the improvement. But, thanks to Keybase, now I ask different questions upfront.

    Beware the Keybase formula:

    1. Integrates with an existing, open ecosystem
    2. May have open-source clients, but server is closed source and does not federate
    3. Pretty UI and good marketing
    4. VC funded

I saw and linked in my post, that's super encouraging! Also, I'd be curious what % of their customer base is Windows vs Mac - I thought all photo nerds were Mac, but probably just showing my crazy bubble bias

I'm guessing this is more targeted at gamers which is why they went Windows first

Actually just last week Canon released new software that lets some of their cameras work as webcams over USB! Only on Windows for now though.

Why did you make me care about this stuff, Aaron?
    Aaron Parecki
It's supposed to be $99 but they're out of stock everywhere so people are selling them used at ridiculous markups. There are a few off-brand ones that work, but I haven't tested any myself.

Tomorrow. I’ve found evening releases have poor first few/12/24 hour performance which hurts ongoing promotion by YouTube. Those first few hours are critical. IMHO.
